I fail to see the distinction between the action of idling with the program and idling within TF2, and I certainly fail to see how this makes 4.5% of us "cheaters". I'm more than willing to play within the rules, but rules, as a rule, are clear and concise.
Also, you might want to remove the gametracker links in the OP because it uses an external application to start TF2.
Again, it's a matter of principle. They knocked down the achievement unlocker, why would they not do the same with the idler? External programs, big no no
Also, the drop rates have been increased. I was getting plenty of drops today. You really shouldn't have to idle in the first place, that's the point
What principle? The principle of apples and oranges?
As someone who wasn't here for any achievement unlocker fiasco I clearly see a difference between the two. A big difference.
Principle of not letting external programs dictate game stuff, and you know, actually playing for your rewards
The same law has always applied for gaming in general whether it be hacks, bot programs, achievement unlockers, and now idlers.
Dictating game stuff and playing for rewards describes neither form of idling, when only one has been condemned.
And continuing to 'argue' about it is laughable.
I'm sorry, I'm very resentful about having been called a cheater.

Me, I'm gonna step back and play something else. Maybe when I come back the player base will be done being self-righteous/butt hurt assholes.

It's true, we own.
Yeah, because you had a team willing to move from where they were currently standing, whereas we, did not.

They respected you by selling the game for dirt cheap and giving you new content for free. Don't be a baby.
I'll have fun with you guys in the game on the servers, but I guess if I want to actually discuss it or learn or whatever, I'll go talk to my left testicle. This is beyond ridiculous, you won't even remember this in a month.

We all know I'll still be in thread.
Hey, we're trying. Unless you're a mainline scout. Then you need scoot right off.
I can't help but give a hardy laugh at all the people who have spent so much of their time bitching about Valve taking away your shit.
You know it was cheating and no amount of bitching and moaning is going to change that.
For once I agree with GinGin. BOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH CRY SOME MORE!
Taking away shit you earned legitimately becuase you deleted the legit item and saved the 'idler' item. Ya real fair. FUCK that noise.
Cry some more. You are not getting them back. Just play the game, like I have been saying the ENTIRE time.
I would like to think I have at least something to do with this, too. I sent a couple of emails a few weeks ago to Robin and Gabe asking if they were ever going to do anything about the idling.
If this actually works, maybe I should email them about the update for the 360 version and whether or not I should put it in my will that it is bought and dl-ed regardless of my state of being.
360 TF2... Anything Valve puts on a console I usually won't touch.
I like 360 TF2, which is why I keep wishing for an update. I'm leaps and bounds, eons, centuries better on the 360 version than I am PC. I'm obviously slighted biased here, but I'm willing to bet I could wreck a whole lot of PC regulars on console.
The reason you won't see that update... Valve stand on principle of not charging you for it.
Say you ever hook up for controller to the PC for play? I know a lot console gents that won't play it otherwise...
If I ever get the money, I might. Although, I'm tempted to wait it out until I pick a new machine that doesn't play the game like butt in general.
And I hold out hope for the 360 update. Valve has given a several reasons for the lengthy development time. The delay according to Valve itself 6-7 months back was the memory cap had almost been reached with the Orange Box on the 360 original release and they had to work around it for the updates. The "there is no update because Micro$oft is making Valve charge people" excuse seems to come from non-Valve sources, haters, and fanboys present company excluded. L4D was free on the 360. Burnout Paradise Bike update was free. CoD : WaW had some free maps. It can be done. It's just a matter of time.

I dunno about consoles, but there was an article about how much Gabe hated the PS3 because they made their architecture infuriatingly obtuse to program for.

That was the PS3. They don't mind working on the 360 because they said it's pretty close to the PC. In fact when they were doing the L4D stuff, I thought I remember them saying they had done L4D with the 4 player co-op specifically with the 360 in mind.

No, but he did say that he thinks Super Mario 64 is MUCH better than Super Mario Galaxy.
In other news, hope to see everyone at PAX. Too bad we didn't get more scrim practice for the tourney.
I'm glad I barely play TF2 anymore or I might care about this "idlers = cheaters, here's a halo" shit. I do hope that the drop rates have gone up though, as it will stop people from feeling like they have to idle to get hats.
Frankly, this thread is laughable. For many reasons. You should all feel embarrassed for caring, one way or the other.

You have me there enders, I did find myself needing to post, but as I was typing there was nothing I wanted to say. All I could think of is that the fallout from this change has been hilarious.
All I lost that I didn't have from milestones was the kritzkreig, fedora, and trophy belt. Frankly I don't care that I lost those, and I don't care that I didn't get a halo. I don't even care about being called a cheater, because there's a difference between being called a cheater and actually cheating.
What I do care about is the flood of new halo-related TF2 youtubery that will come. I hope it's good stuff.
