While we're on the subject, I know it's a dumb thing to get hung up on, but I've always hated the wings on Hawkman's helmet. It seems like wing-overkill when he's got a giant set of them on his back already.
Plus, I like the idea of his head looking like a hawk's, rather than a hawk's head with wings glued to it.
I will gladly read Brightest Day. That kind of thing is what Johns really does best, and I'm actually pretty excited that I'll get to read this as it comes out after having missed the boat on 52's original run. I've actually really enjoyed all of the 'side' characters in Blackest Night, and I've wanted to read a good Ray Palmer book for the longest time. Plus I think Johns is much better at writing Super people experiencing a mix of the normal and extraordinary (Titans, Adventure Comics, Flash kinda, some of his Action Comics stories) than he is at writing balls out Superhero stuff en masse (Green Lantern has honestly been pretty uneven, Infinite Crisis and now Blackest Night both sort of collapse on themselves or got overly simplified at the end).
There was a better version in a JLA/Guy Gardner/Extreme Justice crossover, but this is the best I could find now:
This image highlights the ninja stars on his arm he would wear sometimes.
Wasn't that the version of Hawkman that they turned into some Hawk-God by merging him with all of the spirits of the previous Hawk-heroes before?
Yeah, I think. I never read that series; I'm not saying that character was good (sounds completely convoluted, even for comics), just his outfit. It's right in the middle for space cop/barbarian.
And the last bit of Brightest Day news is that David Finch is doing the covers for the series.
So I have both volumes of Sinestro Corps. And from my understanding there's a couple more volumes that collect basically the 'side stories' of other corps, before Blackest Night starts? So past that, has there been any news about Blackest Night being collected, and will it (though I'm guessing not) contain the side stories or one-shots? How have events like this been treated in the past?

last time I checked Blackest Night is unfortunately (in my opinion) being collected by series
so BN #0 - 8 is in one trade
Green Lantern #43 - whatever is in another trade
GLC #whatever - whatever is in another trade
i think at the very least the BN and GL issues should be in the same trade but /shrug

They aren't so much side stories as build ups to the event. In GL you see the red lanterns, orange lantern, blue lantern, etc.
In Green Lantern Corps you get the other corps members take on whats happening, the disarray in the Sinestro Corps after Sinestro is captured, as well as the Star Sapphires.
There are about 4 trades/hardcovers out now leading up to the event, under a "prelude to blackest night" banner I think.
And yeah when it comes down to it, Green Lantern has been integral to the Blackest Night event more than any other book. It should just be a 16 issue event split over two HC/TPBs like Sinestro Corps War was.
So the White/Brightest Day logo adapts the Black Lantern emblem into a Prism with 7 rays of light coming out of it.
Fitting.
The black triangle is also sunken slightly.
So, kind of cool, but it still doesn't really feel fitting enough. Also I wonder if the white ring is a spoiler on any level to what most of us have believed would be the ending all along.
Just because there's a white symbol now doesn't necessarily mean there will be white rings or a white corps.
Its possible that the white is a new symbol that the new guardians adopt. I mean, the way things are heading, plus the spoiler stuff we've seen indicates that there will be new guardians after this event, perhaps even some of our favorite characters will assume the role of Guardian of the Universe. I would not be surprised if the white logo was not the new banner for the new guardians. The white could indicate that the guardians now embrace the full emotional spectrum, rather than shun it.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think the little blue idiots are going to be the Guardians anymore, but I'm not so sure it will be current heroes either. Maybe something will happen with the demise of Nekron that changes the Oans into something else. Maybe it will be a changed Nekron(but they say "guardians" plural, so I doubt that). Or maybe it will be Jordan, Sinestro, etc. as the new Guardians. I sure hope not though.
Does being a members of the Corps give you a power ring in addition to your basic powers, or is it a purely ascetic change? Because surely now Superman is the ultimate shit-kicker (I ask this as a non DC reader but somebody who is interested in all this Blackest Night stuff).

Yeah, the ring just compliments your existing powerset.
There's a GL called Sodam Yat who is basically a Superman type character (except his weakness is lead).
Scarface and Violin Guy (so not his name) from Suicide Squad made constructs, too.
Suicide Squad borders on out-of-continuity when it comes to the representation of its black lanterns though (e.g. the inexplicably different depiction of emotions).
So I'm really looking forward to BN: Wonder Woman #3. It will be fun to see what she does with her ring.
I wish we could get some one-shots with the other deputies, or at least a couple of them. I'd love to see Luthor and Scarecrow do some stuff. Flash with extra ring powers would be cool too.

Superman: Man of Steel could have been one of the resurrected titles and been about Luthor. And Mark Schultz could have come back to write it and it would be great.
From what I saw of the Catwoman issue, it wasn't that good.

are they shooting that space beast with arrows with suction cups on them?
We've already got a Superman crossover post-Blackest Night:
Is that Ed Benes? How does he keep getting work?

And Tomasi has extended his contract with DC, so high five.
That cover rocks soooooooooo hard. The chainsaw really takes it that extra mile.
I may be wrong, but so far it seems like the only Black Lanterns that are making black constructs are former members of other corps.
