So my inspection date has rolled around, and I been putting off fixing my broken rear tail light cover for my 92 G20 Infinity.
I been told that I have to go to the dealership to get this part, but I'm guessing that's the expensive route. Anyone have any good places where I could get this part? And how hard is it to fix/how expensive it will be to fix?
Yeah, it's usually called a tail light housing, or tail light assembly. The red/orange/clear plastic is permanently attached to the rest of it. Like illig said, check ebay, or local junkyards. You could even try places like Auto Zone or Advance Auto, if they don't have it I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.
Fixing it will involve you going in your trunk and pulling away some of the fabric liner (if it has a fabric liner), to expose the wiring harness and the bolts holding the assembly on. You'll unplug the wiring from the tail light assembly, then undo 2-4 nuts, and the whole assembly will come off of the car. Line the bolts on the new one up with the holes, push it in, tighten the nuts and replace the bulb and plug it back in, and you're done.

Just a personal anecdote. I needed a headlight assembly for an 11 year old car once. Dealership quoted me about $350. Got it at a junkyard for $20.

i find ebaymotors is the best place for cheap car parts:
for example, here's one for $15:

if you need it immediately then call up local junkyards and see if they have one
