Or in my case, I just say I've been playing for 15 years and if possible, grab an electric guitar and start melting faces. I may just call the person a cockbag too, but i like calling people cockbags.
Sadly, I specialize in acoustic finger-style. I can play decent on an electric but my pentatonic-fu is weak so I can't rock out too well. Although I can run chromatics and lots of harmonic minor stuff pretty good, and they sound alright on electric.
Just don't ask me to use effects, foot pedals are a foreign concept to my guitar playing. Anything more than a Crybaby wah-wah and my brain would explode.

I find Danny awesome because he's 100%ing these songs and doesn't even use Breakneck Speed to do it, and I've seen people at SH that it just pisses them off about that and I find it hilarious.
It does kind of help that his entire family plays music for a living though
I was able to 5 star Spanish Fly and improve my score on Eruption by about 20 thousand points, but tapping sure is hard. I got Eruption mostly down (well, the movements, but not the speed), but I'm not sure how to do stuff like the Hot For Teacher intro. Any tips?

Nothing wrong with fingerstyle, it's something I should have tried to become proficient at. I'm only as good as I am at metal due to practice when I should have been studying, and my effects amount to nothing more than distortion and maybe a wah.
As long as you too get to call people cockbags, we're ok.

Huh....that....looks....pretty awesome.
So, a mate of mine's getting me 1500 worth of points for a really late birthday present, and I've currently got another 1500 sitting here. My final GH DLC list is:
The Day That Never Comes – Metallica
Cyanide – Metallica
The Unforgiven 3 – Metallica
Suicide and Redemption – K.H + J.H
1979 – Smashing Pumpkins
Lycanthrope - +44
Black Betty – Ram Jam
Tomorrow – Silverchair
Drive – Incubus
The Bitter End – Placebo
The Rolling Stones - I Can't Get No Satisfaction
Should have most of this soon. I may alternate between RB and GH, so let me know if there's anything you really want me to get.
Also, Rock Band really does rape Guitar Hero with its DLC list. I may never complete my desired Rock Band DLC list at the rate they keep spitting out songs I want. :P
On the topic of real guitar\instruments, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my instrument playing. I will admit, I am rather envious of people who have excellent finger picking techniques (Or any instrument skills, really.) I started off using my fingers, but I'm self taught and I didn't have the bandwidth to watch videos on how to play properly, or how to cut my nails properly ect so, eventually with the type of music I prefer to play I ended up relearning my music with my pick.
Still, it was an annoying process and my pick techniques are still relatively lacking, as in I have serious difficulty trem-picking, especially when it comes to soloing. In fact, I don't even bother then. :P I've found a few really good videos on youtube, anyone else self-taught though and know of some particularly helpful material? (Aside from Ultimate-Guitar\911 tabs\Guitar Pro)

I'm pretty sure you can't split up the Metallica Death Magnetic songs. If you want those three, you'll have to buy the entire album.
I guess because the album came out in the dark ages before Complete Band Games existed.

Also, would it be helpful at all to have some sort of DJ Hero mention in the thread title? I know it took me a while the first time around to realize this thread will also incorporate DJ Hero.
I got to play DJ Hero in one of the gamestops, and eh, I wasn't blown away. Maybe it's just me, but unlike the first time you pick up the guitar hero controller, the game doesn't feel..um, natural? The slider thing seems a bit flimsy, and reports from some sides have been dead on about how there isn't enough of a "click' in the middle, so I kept going to far.
Ended up having a relative over unscheduled, so I didn't get to Gamestop until, like, 10 minutes before close. Just had enough time to get through the tutorial. A few observations me and my cousin shared:
Scratching while holding the green button feels a bit uncomfortable. Being closer to the center of the turntable and using your ring finger just feels kinda odd. Planting your thumb on the rim of the turntable helps a bit, and even as it is, it's not a deal-breaker.
As mentioned, the slider is hard to bring back to center until you develop a method. What I did was place my thumb or forefinger (depending on which way I would slide it) at the center as a backstop for when I need to bring it back.
I must wonder aloud if actual DJ equipment has a pronounced click on the center.
Played it today. It was awkward at first, but it was pretty fun after a while. I'm burned out on rhythm games right now though. I may get it later after a few price drops.

Yeah it's from the Wii version. There's some clips of the same mix on the HD consoles, but the only thing I can find with the entire mix was on Wii.
Well that's jolly good news. Also, Daft Punk. This game is looking better all the time.

So our gamestop had a demo of it set up yesterday. I was kind of surprised at the size of the turntable. I was just expecting something larger. I guess I was expecting the green and blue buttons to be the same size of a Guitar controller. My fingers actually fit in them pretty nicely, and I think I have pretty normal fingers. Hopefully non of you guys are fat finger bastards.
Anyway, the songs were all right, I only got a chance to play on medium, which was pretty boring, but I can see how I would be entertained on a harder difficulty.
Congratulations to Band Hero for, finally, having a better tracklist than the competition.
Now just don't fuck it up with three-note chords and you could be golden!
They'll just use four-note chords instead!
And Taylor Swift!

I played this yesterday and was absolutely blown away.
Now, granted, I've worked as an audio engineer for a bit, so messing with faders and knobs in realtime is a cinch. The crossfader is hella loose, though, but I've felt higher end boards that are that loose as well. You really do need to feel the board more than the notches to know where to go, but it would have been nice if the crossfader was a bit liberal in what it defined as all 3 positions.
The hard part was the scratching. The demo units don't let you switch it to lefty mode, so I was using my off-hand to do it, which hurt. But even then I learned two important lessons: 1) Use your thumb to help, and 2) don't be afraid to use your index finger on all the buttons if you can. I really, REALLY wish the game would've let me put the buttons on the outside, though, so I could spread my arms more to a more natural position for me.

actually, the memo was that all stores were supposed to have DJ hero in their demo machines TODAY
our copy was sitting in the back room, because we just remodeled, and had no display units out.
Yeah, our local GameStop had a "demo day" today.
I didn't go because...well, I don't really like demoing things in stores. I've seen enough of this to know I'm going to love it, pretty much.
And cloudeagle, I reneged on that and did some trade-in to secure a release day copy of Brutal Legend.
But if it did come down to a final choice, DJ Hero alllll the way.

I should have used that as the crossfader's backstop
Not a setup where you can DJ, mind you, but a turntable. I will be bringing some vinyl in tomorrow.
'Spose that rules out Death Magnetic for me then. There's less DLC I'll have for Guitar Hero....urg.
Is that the Wii version?
Well... That's a lot damn prettier than I was expecting, if it is.
