Simple question: What's the best program for getting vidoe and sound off a DVD?

    DVDx?

I'm assuming this thread is alright by the rules. Seems like it would be.

    This related to CDex?

And I think so cause we allow CD ripping topics.

When i was converting my dvds to my new Zen player I used

DVD decrypter from here : http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm (just do a find on the word "decrypter")

that gets all the vob files off the dvd,

then you can encode it to pretty much whatever you want using AutoGK (lets you choose the quality, resolution, sound, subtitles and all that jazz, good program)

    from here : http://www.autogk.me.uk/

I find doing it this way gives you a much better quality result than some of those programs that copy the files live as they play.

however that's for me playing rips on a tv via a portable player... i'm not sure how well it would do creating pixel perfect beautiful copies of dvds for viewing on high res monitors or whatever.
