I hope this game can be good, but I don't know if they'll be able to recreate the same feeling of enchantment that Okami gave me. I'm not saying it isn't possible on a portable system, but they have their work cut out for them.

Well put.
I am very dissapointed. The beauty of the art style is going to be lost on the ds. A sequel on the PS3 would have looked amazing.
Ah man, I can't wait for this. This game is going to be fantastic on the Nintendo DS. This was an excellent choice for the system. Especially considering any other console would have probably cost too much to develop for, considering the potential market, and probably would have lost Capcom a shit ton of money - in other words, this game probably wouldn't exist if not for the NDS. With the DS, seems like a great choice, because it won't cost 3 arms and 4 legs to develop, and sales won't have to be enormous to make money on the game, but most importantly, the control configuration will finally be something completely natural rather than utilizing a thumbstick or pointer control.
Nintendo DS, the best choice. Any home console would be a terrible choice, because it would be a money black hole.

I'm sure it would, but do you honestly think Capcom could justify the ridiculous cost? The game sank like a rock twice, and this is even with the ridiculously huge PS2 and Wii install bases. It's amazing they're even considering a sequel at all, so it's pretty much "DS sequel" or "nothing." (Also see: Valkyria Chronicles 2.)
I also remember these conversations last year or so when Dragon Quest IX was announced—beautiful PS2 game gets a DS sequel, people bemoan the lack of all visual quality—and by all accounts the game has been superbly received. I'd wait to find out more about it before casting any judgment.

Excellent analogies.
The fact is, a niche game like this would be a money black-hole for Capcom for the Playstation 3.
Whereas the Nintendo DS provides them an opportunity to develop the game on a relatively small budget, but also to sell to a much larger install base that is successful both in the West as well as the East.
The fact that we are getting the controls that this game has always deserved is a huge bonus. Might even make the game more fun to play.

Personally, I thought Okami (the Wii-port) was only okayish - it didn't quite reach the highs of the Zelda games. Hopefully, this time they lean closer to the series they copied off so much.
And I quite enjoyed Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble, for what it's worth. Then again, I never understood the immense hatred everyone has for VJ2 either, it wasn't as good as the first one, but it was still a lot of fun.

From the pictures, I take it that that (thanks god) Izu is appearently not with you this time, although someone else is riding on Amaterasu's back. And I do think their models look pretty ugly in those pictures.
This is pretty good. I'd have preferred it to have been on a console, but everybody has argued very well that the DS is the smarter choice. I'm just happy to have another Okami!
So let's talk controls! Move around with D-Pad, jump with L and draw stuff with stylus. Attacking also stylus movements? How do you think "draw mode" will be activated? Holding my DS, I think I've run out of buttons. Maybe something on-screen?

Maybe stylus for attacking and general interaction, tap an ink-pot to activate 'art mode'?

Why can't it just be like the first? Face buttons for movement, attacks, interactions, etc... hold the left button down to activate stylus mode.

Maybe it will be? I could see some problems with the 'both hands on face buttons --> one hand on face buttons, one hand on stylus' switching, so [shrug]
Then again I was one of those people who liked the controls for Phantom Hourglass, so I wouldn't mind something like that.

His name is Issun and they specifically mention him being back in the description on page 2.
- Full title: Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou
- new wolf: Chibiterasu
- events take place a few months after the end of Okami
- Issun is accompanying Chibiterasu to meet up with Sakuya, as Sakuya wants to ask Chibiterasu for help - combat system similar to the original Okami
- draw lines to slash enemies, circle trees to make them grow/bloom
- partner characters for Chibiterasu to work with
- partner will both aid and hinder you, bringing up puzzles that you have to solve in order for you and your partner to progress
- one partner revealed: Kuninushi, son of the swordsman Susano
- learn why Susano has a son, when he didn't a few months ago
- producer: Motohide Eshiro
- director: Kuniomi Matsushita
- Matsushita wanted to make a portable Okami, so he made a prototype and showed it to Eshiro. When Eshiro saw the prototype, the team decided to move forward
- Matsushita wants to go portable with Okami in the hopes of getting a bigger audience to experience what the world of Okami is all about
- due out 2010 in Japan
It's just that... Very few DS games actually use the system's functions in a smart way, they just slap touch on everything, so that's why I assumed what I originally did.

Why do you have to shatter all my hopes for this game?
Personally I would have done the game as a 2d side scroller. Since I think iit would result in a better looking game. But hey if capcom can make it workk more power to them. Any idea what studio got the job?
Man, I loved the way Okami looked but I couldn't stand how it played. What I mean by that is it was a clone of the 3D Zelda games and I fucking can't stand those games so no matter how much I want to play Okami I just can't bring myself to do it.
Okami Set for DS
Okamiden follows the events of the original Okami by a few months, in a world now restored to peace. Issun, Amaterasu' guide from the original, accompanies Chibiterasu to Sakuya

The art style looks a lot nicer in those (admittedly tiny) scan pics. I can't wait to see what this looks like in motion, because I think it could pull off a fair amount of what made the original look so gorgeous.

The fact that it bombed makes me sad. I hope this is just as good and does a bit better sales wise.
