Oh wow, that's a sweet deal for those who actually bought it! An N64 game on the VC for half price, or at worst a NES game for full price and you're out nothing.
Glad that they updated flash too, it's been a long time. Maybe Youtube and Hulu will work better? It seemed like Hulu outright blocked game consoles though, I guess we'll see if this changes anything.
EDIT: Pain, he was kidding, they're probably not specifically doing this for that reason. It's just a nice bonus.
EDIT2: Why did you mention reducing prices of games when theirs are still $50 and everyone else's are $60.
On Topic:
The really important part is whether or not the Flash upgrade allows browsing of flash-based porn sites, because then the "Wii-waggling" jokes can start again.

The US Treasury has been closed and Nintendo of America has been given the task of printing the nation's money since they've gotten so used to it.

Holy shit, this is big news to me. The only thing stopping me from changing my Wii's shop channel region (through a hack) was the loss of Opera (even though I never used it, it's just there to stay, y'know?), but hey, since it's free, time to go try out MH3 online
I think I actually deleted the browser off my Wii a few months back when I needed space. Space isn't an issue for me anymore with the SD support, but I don't foresee myself downloading it again. Cool deal for anyone who wants it though.
Well i turned your wii on since it was flashing blue to update.. even though when i checked it didn't need any haha. But anywho. On the Wii news bulletin it sent it says at the end of october you'll be able to download an NES game thats 500 points for free. Since you had already paid for the internet channel and all. So there ya go.
Well, i don't know how exactly they are going to give you the points. The wii bulletin was very specific in that it did not say that they would give you 500 points, but rather at the end of october you would be allowed to download one 500 point NES game for free.
You paid for a browser that was free before you paid for it, and is now free after the fact. I applaud Nintendo for reimbursing people the money for a download that they wrongly charged for in the first place. They deserve respect for that. But the fact is, you paid $5, for something that does not cost money. Hence, your $5 is only now going towards something that actually has a value of $5. I would not call this game free. It's been paid for.

No, the Beta version of the browser was free to the customers that purchased the Wii within the first 6 months.
The final version of the browser which was released I believe in June of 2007 was $5.
Opera and/or Nintendo decided to start releasing the browser for free, so they're refunding the money to the people that purchased it.
So don't go around saying "You're not getting a free game, you already bought it."
That's not true. I bought the browser knowing that I was willing to pay $5 to browse the web using my Wii.
I had no problem with this. Nintendo could have kept charging $5 for the rest of the Wii's lifespan and I wouldn't feel ripped off in the least.
what matters is that folks who paid $5 for the browser now have 500 points to spend on a game. Whether they considered the $5 a sunk cost, and they consider this game to be free, or if they are considering this a return on their $5 investment is a matter ONLY for their personal books, and WILL vary between folks depending on how they chose to budget and account for their own finances.
I agree, people will see it a different way. I see it as walking to a sub shop, and buying a sub. The next day I go there for lunch again, and the cashier tells me I overpaid yesterday, and the sub today is already covered. Sweet.
If I didn't go back, I would not have realized I paid too much, and would have continued life not caring.
Does this metaphor work perfectly? Maybe not, but it's almost lunch time and I'm hungry.

Holy crap.
I can't wait to get home.
I might buy Sin & Punishment finally.

I don't recall paying for it.
Yep, originally it was free for the first 6 months or so. If you downloaded it during that time, it would always be free for you.

Then they started charging for it, but now they're offering it free as price-cut competition to the PS360 fighting.
olol

Wow that is... uh. Special.
Here are consoles with legit cuts and they give us... free internet.
Why not try reducing prices of games. Hmm?

You had to manually redownload it though.
Wii Fit Plus, a guaranteed moneymaker, was just announced today for 20$.
The non stupid versions of the other consoles are still more than a Wii.
But let's stay on topic plz

Actually, Wii Fit Plus was announced at E3.
Will the free game offer apply to people that got the browser free initially?
also probably not.
I'll gladly pick up Ocarina of Time on your dime. (Or Pulseman, I dunno)
And to think I was talking with a friend last night who was planning on getting a Wii. I told her that she'd have to pay for the Internet Channel.

while the OP states that we will get a choice of NES, SNES, or N64.
what?
3DS FC: 5343-7720-0490
The message I got on my Wii said one game worth 500 points.
Edit:
Hulu doesn't work.
Neither does Escapist or thatguywiththeglasses. (Need flash 9? Update is effectively flash 8)
Gametrailers works and that didn't before.
Do you live in Somalia or something, that you get THIS excited about a $5 freebie?

Well at first the OP said N64 and getting $10 for $5 is awesome.
But now that its a $5 I am meh about it, but still happy.

That's odd, because the message I got on my Wii message board said it was Flash Lite 3.1, which was the equivalent of Flash 8.

Because they don't have to.
Price-cuts aren't gifts that companies give to consumers, they are attempts to be more competitive in sales.
The Wii is still at its same launch price because it STILL sells great.
