The fight isn't tuned to be difficult as far as executing a strategy at all for phase 1/2, the real difficulty lies in raid stacking to even be able to get to phase 3. Once you are in phase 3 it's all on your healers keeping people from dying to penetrating cold.

It's extra bad for us because our rogues have collectively low raid attendance at the moment, for various reasons (1 started Aionn, one is MIA, one isn't able to attend as many raids) and the one guy who regularly shows is needed to tank on his alt for Anub. In fact, of our three MTs, the two regular ones are druid and DK, and the third guy (warrior) has had really low attendance the last few weeks due to his computer going crap and having to play on a shitty laptop that can't handle raids. Our attending rogue could single-tank the adds on his warrior, but since we have 0 - 1 other rogues available we're forced to 2-tank it - and noone else has unhittable gear so the adds need to be kept far enough apart so they don't stack frenzy and burst through holy shield, meaning sometimes positioning for aoe gets fucked. It's like an ever expanding spiral of compensating for blizzards shitty encounter design.

Even so we're at the point where we have phase 1/2 down pretty well and just need to iron out mistakes so we can reach phase 3 regularly. Even so we're at the mercy of randomness because if less than 4 paladins show or someone with forbearance gets pursued you better pray we're good at reacting/improvising because there's no fifth patch to mitigate the RNG!

And the dps meters are indeed hilarious, our DKs and single rogue are always easily top, me (ret) and our best mage after that, and the rest of our dps noticeably behind us and at least 2k behind the DKs/rogues.

HATE: Just when I hit 80, my internet connection starts shitting all over the walls. Now I gotta wait a few weeks before I can switch over to a new provider, and in the meantime try to do groups when I can, and temper my guild's enthusiasm for a new tank to wait.

Happy: My guild is hella focused on making me well geared, they just can't keep me online for more than a few minutes at a time right now. So when it's all sorted out I'll be tanking the shit outa things for days on end and be geared up in no time.

Argh: Going through Sholazar to pick up the flight path, I see the first Rich Saronite Deposit that my miner priest has seen. But it's up a waterfall and my level 75 can't fly there. So I spend like half a minute riding around and line up a Levitate to float down to it, just as I spot a level 80 blood elf flying away with the saronite.

Made up for slightly by managing to skin my first Arctic Fur off a dragon in a Violet Hold run. And, as it turns out, Saronite is cheaper than Cobalt. They're both much cheaper than Thorium, which you can't yet scan for while using a flying mount.

    (snip warrior rant)

I always wondered if gold farmers ever tried to get into a guild and raid. Now I know. I was just waiting for an all caps "YOU BUY GOLD OK?" after his last line.

Actually, we did have a goldfarmer in our guild back in vanilla WoW. He was awesome. He did passable rogue DPS (this was of course back in the day when we brought fire mages to MC and shit, those 40-mans were HARD) and showed up reliably. He had a habit of dying with his corpse in the weirdest places (blown to great heights by Ragnaros, etc.) and occasionally piped Chinese pop music on Vent and thought Exis was a girl IRL. When he wasn't raiding his character could be found farming Twilight shit in Silithus for sixteen hours a day. Ultimately his account got banned for being involved in goldselling activities and it was sort of sad.

Amused: Got Tribute to Skill (10) on ALTS tonight. Well, half alts. I was MT on my paladin. It was fun, and sort of hilarious because I think we killed Anub in less attempts than the other 10-man heroic group in guild composed entirely of mains. >.>

Back in Vanilla, during a ZG run, we had 2 people say

happy: impromptru hardmode ToC10 run just before shutdown, grabbed the few mains that were available, a few well geared alts and a couple well geared pugs and did 4/5 quickly. had 41 attempts remaining. only had 10 mins before shutdown when we started anub so had no real hope of downing him.

was pretty fun, didn't have much of a stacked group (3 high dps casters, no curse of elements or ebon plague debuff, two high dps melee, but no windfury or 10% ap buff), so dps was a little low, but we got them all down smoothly enough.

We also had a goldfarmer in vanilla, an amazing hunter. He spoke very little English, and loved me since I had a friend of mine translate some common phrase to Chinese so I could communicate with him to an extent. He used to make tons of money by soloing DM and UBRS... Think Hunter vs world vids, not teleport hax. He didn't kill everything. But yeah, I watched him a few times on my rogue and was inspired to level my Hunter. (And soloed big chunks of instances my level, Hunters are broken)

It was great for him, we got him a bunch of upgrades from ZG... We got an amazing player out of the deal, and I think he ended up giving most of us our DM books as random gifts. (Hey, 200g was a lot back then) I think lost his account during one of the mass waves of bans; someone in guild got him another one but I think that got banned at some point also. =/ Sucks, he was a really nice guy too.

I'm going to assume you mean Titanium and why the hell can't you scan for it? It shows up in my tracking just fine.

Hate: two attempts on 10 man hard mode Valks last night then the Shaman healer, at 11 pm, goes "Sorry guys gotta bail" and leaves the raid and the game. Raids go to 12. Pretty pissed off about that since he has 29 fragments. Why exactly are we gonna get a guy that's not committed to raiding a Val'nyr?

he probably does mean Thorium, on our server as well it sells for way more per unit than Saronite or Cobalt.

He means that you can't use a flying mount to hunt for it since it's all old world (and definately thorium).

I can see thorium being that expensive, since there's always somebody powerlevelling jewelcrafting, blacksmithing, or engineering and unwilling to take a level 80 with mining to winterspring or silithus and spend the hours of getting all the stacks you need there.

Pretty much all the farmers are flying around trying to nab Titanium, so the Saronite areas are heavily farmed. It's kindof hilarious, since you can do a quick pass over Howling Fjord and get like 3 stacks of Cobalt Ore in 15 minutes, which end up selling for more than the Saronite/maybe 3 or so Titanium you'd find.

I wish we could get our group to bother with this at least once. We tried a few attempts one night but our two tanks get debilitatingly sleepy around 11 EST and making them do a tricky job after clearing Ulduar for the 500th time on an "off" night usually doesn't turn out very well. In addition to general fuck-uppery from other people in the raid due to Ulduar boredom, etc.
