I am new to the idea of unemployment and have no idea how it works. Here's my situation:
-From April 2007-June 2009, I worked full-time at my job, getting a yearly salary of $24k + assorted commissions.
-In June 2009, I
voluntarily dropped down to part-time in order to take classes to get my teaching certification.
-Since then, I've been working part-time and looking for teaching jobs (hindered by the fact that my certificate took forever to process due to budget cutbacks at the Department of Education).
-I went from making about $750 bi-weekly to about $200 bi-weekly (after taxes).
-I'm still job-hunting, both in the education field and in other fields.
-My boss has offered me my old full-time job back, but I'm not going to take it because a.) it would be a step back, b.) it was too much stress for too little pay, and c.) I'd be actively looking for another job and the position I used to have required a lot of commitment (martial arts school manager). I would feel bad about taking the job only to resign in a week/month/year/however long it takes.
Like I said, I'm working part-time and I'm actively job-hunting (although without much luck). I will be making some extra money as a substitute teacher when school starts up. I'm making a little bit of money, but more would certainly be helpful. I'm not looking to exploit the system or anything, it's more that I don't really understand how the system works and I'm not sure if my current situation would qualify.
EDIT: Also, I've looked at the NJ Unemployment website and didn't really find anything that helped me answer my question.

Edit - There may be a magic number to look for, such as $400/week for example. This is specific to CA, but when you're filed as unemployed, but say make a certain amount in contract/freelance work that's under the threshold, you'll receive a reduced amount up to the normal amount. I hope that made sense somewhat.
