I don't know a lot of people / have many friends that actually play fighting games. I have a lot of friends that are really into shooters, sports games, MMOs, western RPGs, and racing games... but for some reason I find it hard to find people that are really, truly into this genre. I guess part of it is that it's a niche genre? I have one really good friend who is into Street Fighter, Brawl, and MVC2. And then my younger bro is really into GGXX but he kind of stopped playing it.. Other than that, nothing. I've tried introducing my other friends to fighting games, but they can't stand 2D fighters, and only prefer 3D fighters because that way they can mash buttons with the result of their character flipping out and doing cool shit on screen (See: Soul Calibur games, Tekken games). Blah. I don't like 3D fighting games.
That's mostly because shooters and 3D fighting games are often alot more straight forward to play.
Though you're not going to beat someone who practiced for months at tekken 6 straight away.
Most of my friend are from the PC gamers crowd. *sigh*
Yeah I suppose they're more straightforward to play. I suppose initially. But I still feel like there are a lot of skills that you really have to work on, and a lot of strategies and certain higher level skills. Like learning hitscan, learning to lead with projectiles, utilize splash damage, and so forth. You start out a shooter and you get your ass kicked. Then you get better at controlling it, and start learning progressively advanced techniques that build upon themselves. So on a basic level it's not much different than a fighting game. You start out sucking, get used to controlling it, then start building upon your technique. But even so, I suppose that running around like a chicken with its head cut off shooting a rocket launcher is some how more satisfying in general for a newbie than flopping around back and forth and being combo'd into a pulp in a fighting game?
Anyway, my friends are largely PC gamers too. It's just that some of them also have consoles. I only have a couple of console-only buddies, as most of my friends are primarily PC but also with console.
That's a bland view of shooters. When you can time double damage, all three armors, all health items, all weapons, down to the second on quake that's when you being to start cracking the complication in them. And even though you can't see it, unless you're a good level competition player, some of the trick jumps require fast enough reflexes that make any combo seem like cake walk and things get odd fast.
The real main draw of competition shooters is stability. Quake, CS, et all are global, and they aren't going anywhere. Furthermore there is a massive cash influx for comp events, you've got a reason to keep improving. Granted, this has more to do with the PC being a far more stable platform then an arcade, or a console, but facts are facts.
Maybe Juri will play a lot like Kim from KOF and totally fucking rule.
I once beat down 8 people at an arcade on one quarter with Kim and it was oh-so-satisfying.
Go Team Korea!
That's cause Kim is a beast, especially if you know how to play him.
The only other person I can think that's a better character is Andy.
Andy is a fucking GOD, I mean the guy was a straight up ninja, fucking shirinui wind.
One of the only people to ever be par-for-par with Terry (at one point). And what did he do when he finally realized he wasn't par anymore? He left the fucking game for close to 3 years to train himself and Hokutomaru. He also realized before the Ash saga, hokutomaru was dreadfully ill and Andy went by his side. Mai went after Andy when she found out of this. She never found him while searching.
Even in the short anime "King of Fighters: Another Day" you don't see Andy but you see Mai, somewhat lost, searching for a sign.
Man whoever said KOF didn't have a great storyline can suck it. The storyline in KoF vastly surpasses any fighting game's story I've come to play.

We can only hope that it will be Street Fighter: The Movie "so bad it's hilarious" quality.
A lot of bad movies take themselves way too seriously these days.

Is that the storyline's fault?
Is that the writer's fault for some other producer/director to take the KoF franchise and embellish it into their own?
All of the SF movies fucking blew ass, but that doesn't mean you can't have a rad ass SF movie or anime, they just decide to fuck up the characters and storyline so much by being hollywood.
I mean it's p-bad that the only "semi-legit" fighting movie based on the game is Mortal Kombat.
Even that had some errors, but not nearly as cheesy/hilarious as the rest.

Not that there's much competition for that.
I like GG's and BB's, but that's mostly because the joke storylines are frigging hilarious.

It would be totally cool if they added a character with a Canadian nationality. He could be like, a hockey player who does cross checking and bare-knuckle boxing. . . for a throw he could shirt you and then push you over. it'd be great!

HNK needs more movies, yes I went there. And yes I do think HNK was a good game, despite it's errr, flaws

I dunno but sometimes (read all the time) heavily stylized characters and movesets from games/comics/anime don't translate that well to the real world.
The fact that mortal kombat the first wasn't completely retarded, is a colossal feat in itself.

Why the fuck is Terry getting his ass kicked and ganged up on? This doesn't happen, ever. Power Geyser anyone? He also never takes his hat off until the end of the fight.
Also why is he using a staff and there is no Iori to match Kyo's storyline?
What the fucking fuck?
Edit: Also why do they chose to pick American actors for Japanese fucking people? "Kyo Kusanagi" last time I checked he wasn't a caucasian football quarterback.
If you're going to make a movie like this, you NEED to apply the little things that make fans enjoy the film. Kyo must have a chain wallet. Terry must have his hat. Iori must be voiced by the same guy in the Anime, fucking best character ever.

Well his last name is "Hibiki" which is japanese soooo....
Father was Japanese, he was born in China. I'm not sure why, but he moved to Hong Kong for some reason. Not entirely sure if this is true, but I think it's because he couldn't qualify for the tournament from Japan, so he moved to Hong Kong, changed his nationality and qualified that way.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

k, this is it.
SSF4 is making me buy next-gen. I almost did for SF4 but i feared it was a shortlived hype. It seems fighting games are finally making a comeback.
now to decide which platform...
And I play Cammy.
PS3 is for the beautiful people.
Beautiful on the outside, maybe.

plus i'm pretty good with the dualshock, but where it's perfectly serviceable for CvS2, FADC kind of makes me wonder if i should go stick.
I just noticed there really is no love for Germany.

You would like the KoF movie then.

Features a hockey player for no apparent reason!
I remember Ryu looking like some puerto rican. It was awful.

They don't even have Mai's skimpy red outfit or Terry/Kyo's.
Director lied about this being for the fans.
Also go to the new thread you dumb dumbs.
Hugo is German.
Also, isn't Dan's flag Hong Kong?
