I have Windows XP SP2 and an old XBOX controller. After getting an adapter dongle, I searched the internets for drivers and found XBCD comes highly recommended. The trouble is I can't figure out how to configure the d-pad. In 2D platfomers like Oddworld or Earthworm Jim, the left analog stick controls fine but the d-pad does nothing. I thought I'd just assign an axis to each direction on the d-pad in the driver's Setup screen but that just makes Abe and Jim go crazy, as if all directions are being pushed at the same time. Is there a trick to this?

assign the arrow keys to each direction
usually works.

Sadly, Earthworm Jim for the PC doesn't let you assign arrow keys to the pad. I don't see that option in the driver's Setup, either.
EDIT: Ok, I figured it out. I had to download something called ControlMK in addition to the XBCD drivers. That new thing allowed me to assign the arrow keys on my keyboard to the d-pad.

In-game key assigning is usually shitty.
