I can't remember the nanny's name, but she was creepy as shit - her death justifies the entire Crossing storyline.

And it dangles two really good plot threads at the end.

Bendis created the Ultimate version of that character, so it can't just be an oversight.

I'm pretty sure it was just an Easter-Egg type thing.
I mean, she died during Ultimatum right? Maybe Bendis is just poking at the company for letting another writer kill his character.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

It's also, y'know, just a name and a quick visual gag that no one ever mentions or addresses in the comic and isn't a big deal at all

Spider-Men #1 Preview (Same preview as in the Comixology preview I linked)
Ultimate Comics X-Men #13 Preview Brian Wood takes over as writer, looks like it'll be a great jumping on point for anyone not reading!

Also some preview art from UCSM 15?(I'm guessing that's a typo on CBR's, otherwise O_O if Marquez/Ponsor are already having pages fully done from October's Issue, I'm assuming it's from Issue 12 which looks like it'll have a Miles/Uncle Aaron confrontation which I can't wait for after issue 11! Also, possible "crush" for Miles?

just got to the two issue FF arc that Jae Lee did. The art was fairly bad, but it had some interesting things going on with the coloring, inking and expression... I'd gladly read more of that though, because I just picked up the next issue.

    Land.

I think that's a good stopping point for the night. Don't have any desire to keep reading tonight. which sucks because I'm almost certain it was the start of a multiverse reed story.

    Oh goddammit

  • KyouguKyougu Registered User regular
Spider-Men is the usual Bendis book.

He captures 616 Parker PERFECTLY but man does the issue feel short. Still, the last few pages capture what I hope the event is going to be about, and I'm psyched about the next issue.

Still kinda a tough sell at 3.99. You could skip it and pick up 2 and lose nothing.

  • CadeCade Eppur si muove.Registered User regular
The Ultimate comics tend to be those kind that seems perfect for getting trades for, I really don't trust any of the series to have an issue really wrapped up in a issue or two.

It's more dragged out than most other comics.

Spider-Men #1 was a great 1st Bendis issue, needed more Miles though! Looking foreward to seeing how Ultimate Mysterio came about. X-Men #13 was a fantastic issue, setting the new mission statment for the book up. Though I will hate Wood forever for splitting Bobby and Johnny up :(

I'm reading the Ultimates series (starting from the beginning), and I've gotta say, I'm liking it so far.

And while I know that Cap ends up being a massive asshole down the road, so far he's likable. Definitely big on the 1940s bravado, but in the modern world his ignorance is kind of endearing.

Also, I think it's absolutely amazing that they made fun of Robert Downey Jr in a 2002 comic book. Oh hindsight.

  • EtchwartsEtchwarts Eyes Up Registered User regular
    Oh man!

And now Nick Fury saying Samuel L. Jackson should play him in a movie?!

This comic came out 10 years too soon!

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Registered User regular
Just make sure to skip Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum.

Also the Samual L Jackson thing is a reference to the fact hey made Nick Fury look like Samual L Jackson, which is why they cast him Nick Fury in the eventual films.

  • EtchwartsEtchwarts Eyes Up Registered User regular
Oh, I know. I just thought it was funny to hear them vocalize it.

And Ultimatum wasn't any good? I saw it at a Half Price Books and was considering picking it up.

Also almost done with this first arc...and I don't know how I feel about "HULK IS HORNY FOR BETTY". I'm assuming the idea is to make him just a giant manifestation of the id, but it just seems awfully juvenile.

  • Robos A Go GoRobos A Go Go Registered User regular
It seems juvenile because it is juvenile.

Ultimate Galactus was pretty meh. the minis built around it where interesting but I wasn't the biggest fan of this take on galactus.

It seems juvenile because it is juvenile.

Which is unfortunate, because it's a cool take on the Hulk.

And speaking of unfortunately juvenile things, they way they handled the Pym spousal abuse thing was off to me too. I just finished up the first book, and while a part of me cheered when Janet hit Hank back, it almost degraded to slapstick.

"Hey, no powers!" is not the sort of dialogue one should write when dealing with domestic abuse. It seemed too lighthearted.
