Apparently there is a backup runway somewhere in Alberta in case of emergency shuttle landings. That fills me with glee, even though it will most likely never be used.

Man as if you wouldn't be shitting your pants during re-entry.

unless we get a extremely lucky break in the next few days, I can pretty much assure you they will land at edwards. Central florida has had nothing but terrible weather all week, and while the coastline might be fairing a tiny bit better, here in orlando we haven't seen the sun since sunday afternoon

Especially since there are at least 2 runways in the US.

Gravity works the whole time. The astronauts are just in free fall that whole time. They are moving forward fast enough that they miss the planet as they fall.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.

There are actually 9 backup/emergency/abort landing sites in the US, and several in other countries too.

So I've been watching From the Earth to the Moon and it was been pretty excellent so far, even though it doesn't really hit it's stride until the third episode. The first two have a some really jarring editing choices, but it's still very interesting nonetheless.

Guenther Wendt is an awesome dude.

Probably about the exact same time it figures out what gravity is.

So it appears that the shuttle landings were delayed to to our extremely awful weather today. It cleared up a bit this afternoon, so its possible that a KSC landing will happen tomorrow. Which means i might get woken up by the sonic booms. Nothing quite like every door and window in your house rattling simultaneously, along with the noise, to get your day started. It also scares the ever-loving shit out of anyone visiting who's not ready for it.

Also i thought the last few days choices of wake-up music were pretty awesome

Flight day 10: "Theme from Star Trek" composed by Alexander Courage, played for the entire crew.
Flight day 11: "Cantina Band" composed by John Williams, played for the entire crew.
Flight day 12: "Galaxy Song" from the movie Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, played for the entire crew.
Flight day 13: "Where My Heart Will Take Me" (theme from Star Trek: Enterprise) performed by Russell Watson, played for the entire crew.
Flight day 14: "Ride of the Valkyries" composed by Richard Wagner, played for the entire crew.
