i don't really care if we have 50 reserves really... actually i think it would be funny if we had more reserves than players.

Well, you've got time travel available... you could make a neutral character that has the ability to alter the sign-up order and replace a player with someone from the reserves (swapping their sign-up positions).

Speaking of time travel, we need to decide what era we'll be visiting for Day 1. Personally, I'm a firm believer in "go big or go home", so I'd be interested in hitting up AD 1999. On the other hand, AD 600 is the home of Frog, which is cool. OR, maybe we could hit up Enhasa in 12,000 BC and pick up sweet technology.

Basically, I'm excited about this game. ;-)

12,000 BC was a pretty cool era for me to come across when I was first playing this game. :^: I'm a sucker for that kinda thing.

    Or we could visit them in the order they're found in the game. 1000 ---> 600 ---> 2300 ---> 1000 ---> 600 ---> 65,000,000 ---> 12,000.

(That order is reconstructed off the top of my head from major plot points, so I'm almost certainly getting it wrong.)

Hrmmm, it's entirely possible that part of the special events planned for this game could be related to something like that...

Wherever we're going, we're not going to 65,000,000 B.C. It's inarguably the weakest time period.

That said, I'd totally be up for some 600AD/1999AD action.

Agreed. 65,000,000 sucks. Although I do enjoy the Tyrano music.

I'm leaning towards 1999, simply because you get the best ending for killing Lavos immediately. ;-)

I'm betting certain characters get bonuses for being in a certain time period. Therein I vote for whatever benefits me. :P

Well if that's the case, we're going to 600 so Frog can get his mojo going.

    Although..... Magus. D:

I'm betting on his being Neutral, as he could go either way in the game. So, let's make sure he's on our side first.

Magus as neutral, yeah. Lavos as a player, with the mechanic of having to meet certain events before being able to defeat the big bad, maybe? Good times.

    This gets my vote.

At the very least, we have to start in 1000 just to set the scene.

Also, I remembered something very, very awesome that was done in CT and that if we don't pull it off you're all heartless bastards.

Mmk, I'll go along with the start-in-1000 plan, unless someone has a flash of inspiration otherwise.

I signed up as a reserve because I can't play over the weekend, but I'd be happy to step in if any of you kill Revolver Ocelot accidentally.

    You're repeating each other.

Besides which, Chrono Cross gave us Pierre, Steena, and Glenn dual-wielding Mastermunes. I can respect that. I just wish the rest of the non-Dragoon/non-Zelbess cast fell off a cliff or something.

I think it's been well-established that I'm not human, but one of Chrono Cross's main flaws was a giant cast that you mostly don't give a shit about, people like Macha, Orcha, Funguy, or Razzly.

The difference is that Suikoden didn't expect you to bring Qlon into battle. He wasn't potentially taking up space from someone badass/interesting.

You know, you...you don't have to use them all. Pick the ones you like, use them, and care about them.

The giant cast was actually one of the things I enjoyed about it -- meeting someone new, you never knew when/whether they were going to end up in your party. Gave the game a sense of scope and sandboxery.

    Exactly what Gandalf said.

Also Spectrum, the Suikoden games were 1000 times worse about forcing you to use a character you didn't give a shit about. That was my major annoyance with those games.

Anyway, this topic was sure to arise but it should probably not continue too far. I'm not even going to be playing. Actually, would five people that made the signup be kind enough to PM me their mailing addresses? This has nothing to do with the reserve list... I just want to send cookies...

Well it's not like you could collect them all in a single playthrough, is what I meant.

CT's 6 + 1 cast was excellent, and every character was well-constructed. However, I feel like CC did an equally entertaining thing in providing you actual choice as to your party make-up. CC =/= CT, but I don't think the giant cast was a mistake.
