Wow. I had my doubts about this game, even though I would've bought it anyway (Kamiya fanboy) but my faith in Kamiya is completely renewed. The animation and framerate combine into such... fluidity.

I can't see Capcom coming close to matching it with DMC5, they just don't have the talent left to modernise the series, so I'll just pick a side now and go with Platinum Games.

I'm buying this no matter what BECAUSE of the 60FPS locked. I fucking love when games set it to that. Makes it so much easier on the eyes.

That said I can't watch the trailer because I am at work. :(

I was wondering is Bayonetta actually technically the villain? I mean she's a witch, she can summon demons with her hair and she's fighting angels that sure sounds like a villain to me.

If she is then they've done the impossible and made this game sound even more awesome!

maybe it's a doubly ironic nickname

shorty is never a short person unless it's ironic in which case they are short. that's one count of irony.

so bayonetta is not a bayonet(ta) and is called bayonetta, but is still not a bayonet(ta), and is called bayonetta

So... videogame developers know their audience and aren't afraid to cater to them?

Don't get me wrong; we're all paragons of equality round here, but your average gamer? Tits and guns oughta sell plenty of units. If it's good, that's just icing.

Also, I suspect it's for the best that I can't view that trailer while at work.

No, they're judging all of this based off of the picture of Bayonetta I posted. The actual trailer is just a bunch of gameplay, and it's not offensive to women really. They're just being internet crusaders.

There's nothing wrong with using sex to sell games, we use sex to sell motherfucking hamburgers. And if a game advertises itself with a barbie-proportioned chick in tight black clothing, I can call it on it regardless of the actual gameplay.

Good to know. I abhor blatant misogyny as much as the next person, but "sex sells" for a reason, and our demographic is no stranger to this phenomenon. I'm less enraptured by "omg she gets naked" and more intrigued by the awesome sounding gameplay.

Though I admit there's appeal in popping this in the 360 just to see my girlfriend's reaction.

Of course, if I did so, she'd probably never let me play it, due to playing it so much herself.

Wow, that trailer lays on the "hot chicks in glasses" fan service thicker than most porn movies.

Not that it's a bad thing, but it seems rather jarring that every female character in the game seems to have poor eyesight and lives in a fantastic world where they invented gun shoes but not contact lenses.

I would argue that there is a certain degree of blatant-ness and offensiveness, but this a relative manner, and should not serve to forbid everyone from purchasing it. I mean, sex sells, whoop-de-freaking-do. That does not mean the game is necessarily bad, it just means the developers considered blatant misogyny a minor quibble to their overall mental image of the final product.

Which, you know, we pretty much already knew from earlier materials.

Anyway, the trailer! For something that short, it's a lot of information to process o_O. I applaud them for going for the 60 FPS, though, that will definitely contribute to the experience. The whole nun thing is an interesting, if kind of exploitative twist (I wasn't aware of it already, could be I just didn't get the memo). I kind of hand to ignore the other crazy librarian blabbering on and on about the eyes of creation and about child behavior to actually focus on the environments, which impressed me the most--they started out with the usual predictable/boring God of War platform with spiked bar crap and got to much more interesting stuff like the outside of an aircraft, environments not pointing up, what I guess was an airport?

Always good to have variety there.
Still kind of grossed out by the whole gigantic hair thing, but that's probably my ridiculous insistence on personal hygiene peaking through.

EDIT: I wear glasses. But mostly because I don't like wearing contacts (I have a serious problem with dry eyes). She's doing it in order to appeal to the whole S&M Librarian Dragon Fetish crowd. Which, you know, is okay. Judge not...

As long as you embrace the self-parodying nature of a sex object being your main character, there's nothing wrong with it. It's when you try and be super cereal about it and act oblivious to it in an unfunny manner that things get kind of weird.

Sort of like how Crank and Crank II were so crass but hilarious, managing to offend everyone but actually upset very few.

I would kind of disagree--self-parodying or not, when you're putting crotches in peoples face, you're putting crotches in people's face. So long as you come out and admit that you're intent was to put crotches in faces, that's okay by me.

Don't get into some sort of philosophical bullshit--it's a unforgiving satire on human emotions blah blah blah--you're still putting crotches in faces, and you still thought it would potentially improve your sales. You don't need an excuse to have a sex-object as a main character, it's your own goddamn game! Embrace your randiness, I say! If you want to be self-deprecating, just be humorous about it. "Yeah, you see that crotch! That was __ days development focus right there! You're welcome, consumers!" :winky:

Again, that's just my view of it.

Well it's not Barbie-proportioned, but actually classical italian mannerist proportioned, but you know... what ever.

She has a classically fantastic booty, s'all I'm sayin'. The glasses just make it all the more awesome. Balshy librarians are hot.

Also, the whole character design thing and tongue-in-cheek presentation (slowmo crotchcam bullet-time (butt-time?) for example) guarantee that this isn't an attempt at being serious, and is in fact a parody of what sells, right? Right? I mean, listen to what she's said in the trailers previously. ("Hello boys, don't you want to touch me?" if I remember rightly.)

I think the more accurate way to put it would be "humorous sex sells, right?" Which, it does. For some reason, Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail comes to mind. o_O

But yeah, it is worthy to note she is not modeled like a Barbie-doll (in retrospect, most characters we associate "sex sells" aren't, I think, which makes Barbie all the creepier and more over-the-top) so much as Italian classical whatever. So it's the difference between a Barbie crotch in your face and a larger classical Italian mannerist crotch in your face (besides the sheer surface area of crotch, which is more in the later).

Take this as my non-classically-educated, non-artistic view on the subject
