I know that people here are of every race, color and creed, and I know that everyone also loves to talk about themselves, so, in that spirit, a website that TFS found last night, which hosts voices samples and maps them based on location, as well as generalizing the pronunciation quirks of individual native languages.

What does this mean for SE++?

You get to listen to amazing accents, like this one, or this, which is probably the best sample on the site. Or you can even find accents from your region, like this excellent Greensboro accent. And, because we like to talk about ourselves, we should all post our own samples. I'll start, and all of you can listen and wonder why you would ever download this file

    Man, the dude from New Zealand is totally trying to sound like he's a clear speaker and enunciating everything.

    The whole point of clipping our vowels and rounding our words is to create a complete unintelligible form of mumble-speak that is incomprehensible to rest of the world.

    My actual voice is pretty deep.

    Beyond that, I'm fairly accent neutral. Where I grew up in NY is actually known for having a pretty minimal accent. Lots of national news agencies send their people there for a few years to flatten out any strong regional accent that they may have.

    However, on certain words and the speed at which I speak you can pick up hints of the new york.

    My years in virginia also make for a very passable southern accent when I want it.
