The game... well the game was bought anyways. Really looking forward to it. I got burned out on Forza 2 but after putting hundreds of hours into it, that's okay.
Does anybody know how much those "100 real world tracks" really are? If they are counting regular, backwards, long and short versions as extra tracks that number shrinks rapidly.

Auto-brake feature? Fuck those casual players, make them learn to play!
Anyways, any word if they're bring back the mountain road course from FM1? That was my biggest dissapointment I had with FM2.
it looks like they've dropped downhill for life :_(
maybe they'll be cool and add togue since it looks like that whole bit about "arcade too" and the race calendar seems to be their way of saying "we're taking the good things about GRID and adding them to forza"
One thing that kinda bothered me about FM2 was that I had the racing wheel and I would consistently get beat by players with joysticks. I'd watch their racing telemetry and their "steering" was a series of bumping the stick instead of pushing the stick in a smooth motion. That always made me feel cheated that the cars were OK with a driver who jerked the wheel around instead of making smooth motions. Am I the only one who noticed this? If there was anything that felt too arcadey about the game it was this. After spending $100+ on a MS wireless wheel w/force feedback, I was at a disadvantage to those folks who bumped the steering with their thumb. Go figure.

I didn't really care because for me racing is a competition against myself. Even if there are other racers on the track all I care about for the most part is shaving seconds off of my lap time.
Ok, recapping everything here from the NeoGAF thread that I've been watching, since they've covered a lot more ground than we have:
Forza 2 vs. Forza 3:
New screens:
More on the new career mode, and how the two discs are purported to work:
They've added a dynamic calendar system to career mode that adds events to a calendar based on what cars you buy, what types of races you like to do, etc.
Essentially, the new career mode works more like PGR4's -- there's a calendar that comes up, and throws on events pseudo-randomly based on what cars you own. You'll always be "offered" a choice of events.
Most of the cars and most of the tracks fit on the first disc. The second disc has the rest of the maps, and some of the more obscure cars.
So if you have the rest of the content on your hard drive, you'll just be offered a greater variety of races. Otherwise, you'll still get the same amount of races, just on a lesser variety of tracks. It's a pretty good compromise. I'd rather have that than a loss of visual fidelity, imo.
More screens:
Another couple FM2/FM3 comparisons, credits to WHOAguitarninja on NeoGAF:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxu8j-ZRz54[this one is a good watch, shows both rewinding and rollover near the end]
good vid and nice quality, shows a couple different cars and the third track we hadn't seen demoed before. Great draw distance on those mountains.
Also, shows the car rolling after a crash, although tbh it doesn't look that good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7kBLkVAbnU
Another video, this time showing a SUV and you can get a glimpse of a few cars we hadn't seen before. Impressed they have so many cars available to choose from in the demo.
Too bad the video is poorly edited, cuts out when things get interesting only to show you the loading screen for maybe 15 seconds ...
Finally, an all-but-officially-confirmed info leak from someone that works at Turn 10:
So...a broad overview:
Car content:
Most of the tuner cars are gone, with the exception of the Mugen Honda Civic and Integra and the Mine's R32 and R34 Skyline. Thankfully, that means the awful tuner car liveries are gone too.
For BrianJ:
1971 Skyline 2000GTR
R33 GTR
No R35 GTR, because they are a bunch of twatwaffles. Apparently the GTR team is independent from the rest of Nissan on many levels, one of them being licensing. The only way they would allow us to use the R35 was if it had no damage, no rollover, no custom wheels, no custom parts that improved performance, no painting, and no livery. So we said no thanks.
I think that's a net +1 to the Skyline count.
The usual suspects have also been added:
Corvette ZR1
'09 Cadillac CTS-V
370Z
Reventon
Ferrari California
Evo X
GR STI
Camaro
Veyron
etc....
If you like your wheels old school:
Fiat 131 Abarth
2nd gen Toyota Celica Supra
250 Testa Rossa
Aston Martin DB5
If you like shitboxes:
Versa
Yaris
Aveo
Xd
If you like Smokey and the Bandit or Knight Rider:
'79 Camaro Z28
'87 Firebird
'88 Camaro IROC-Z
If you like trucks:
Rang Rover Supercharged
Saleen S331 Supercab
Ram SRT10
Audi Q7
VW Toureg
Porsche Cayenne
If you like Italians:
Alfa 8C
Alfa Brera
Alfa Mito
Fiat 500 Abarth
If you like race cars:
Aston Martin Prodrive DB9s
997 and E92 BMW GT cars
Porsche, Acura, and Mazda LMP cars
Meh....that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you ask about a specific car it may jog my memory.
As far as tracks go, the only big licensed one we added was Le Mans. Fujimikaido is back though and pretty cool, and we have some imaginary tracks that are a huge improvement over the older stuff.
The big change to the Livery Editor is that all cars, including race cars, are paintable now. Black on black on black Ferrari Prodrive 550 GT1 racecar looks awesome. That is all.
As far as rollover goes, what you saw in the first video is pretty hard to accomplish. It won't be like Burnout where every car to car contact will result in exploding rollover mayhem. It's actually fairly hard to do. So don't worry. While physics compromises were made in order to make the game "more fun" to a wider audience, it's still more simulator than arcade.
The "one button" racing mode is basically massive assists and auto braking. You still have to steer and hit the gas, but it's designed for super casual quasi car guys that just want to race a pretty car around a track. All assists can be progressively turned off if you like.
Customising has a new "quick option" that allows you to set a PI limit, then bias it in favor of speed or handling, and the game will select a set of upgrades for you. Should make getting a car tuned for a PI limit race easier for the uninitiated.
The DLC plan is for 10 cars a month for the next year. Some of the cars will be things that didn't make it into the release version, like the Ford Escort RS1800 - some will be new cars we haven't seen yet, like the Corvette Gran Sport. I haven't the slightest clue what the track DLC plan is.
That's about it for now off the top of my head that might be interesting to you guys. Cheers.
RE: The GTR:
Logical conclusions one could make:
A. GT5 won't have damage
B. Every car in GT5 except the R35 will have damage
C. The GTR teams makes an exception for PD because they are BFFs
D. GT5 doesn't come out until after the R36 GTR debuts and they don't care about the R35 any more.
E. Africa.
It will actually be fascinating to see what happens. For FM2, Nissan actually paid Turn 10 to have their cars be "featured" in the game (that's why the Altima and Sentra were added, and one of the tracks has much Nissan signage). The prevailing feeling was that Nissan didn't really get their money's worth.....so maybe they're mad at Turn 10
No 24 hour races if that's what your thinking.
Other things that got cut:
Weather
Night/day
Active aero (again!)
Widebody kits with 12 inch wheels
Some really cool driver animations
Some digital gauge animations
Custom underbodies (with rollover comes undercarriage modeling - unfortunately, all the cars use a generic layouts, so sometimes they are wrong; like the Lamborghinis have the transmission rearward of the engine instead of infront, etc.)
Super high level of detail car models in replays (Currently the super high detailed models are used in the UI homespace/garage, thumbnails, livery editor, and photo mode).
No exposed suspension cars like Ariel Atoms, Lotus 340Rs or Caterhams, even though T10 owns PGR and they had the tech to model working suspensions.
Most of the cuts came about because there is immense pressure to hit the release date. There are careers on the line with this one, because FM1 and FM2 were so late. There WILL be a game called FM3 ready to go for October, the only question has been what kind of game it will be.
No WTCC cars,
There will Australian Supercars though, both Holdens and Fords. And NASCAR cars in all their asymetrical glory
Oh yeah. Fox body '93 Cobra R - in.
The new Focus RS and the Fiesta.
Others I forgot to throw in there:
AMG ML63
Aston DBS
Alfa Giulia Sprint
510
G8 GXP
Evora
135i
E60 M5
M1
X5 4.8i
Z4M Coupe
'94 Miata R-package
'78 Firebird
Viper SRT10 ACR
300C SRT8
Challenger SRT8
'09 Fit Sport
6th gen GTI
Scirocco
Volvo C30 R-Design
Mazdaspeed3
Citroen C4 VTS
IS-F
A4 Touring Car
C-Class Touring Car
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe (might be DLC, can't remember)
Stuff coming in DLC:
Lancia 037
Corvette Grand Sport
ST165 Celica GT4
Escort RS Cosworth
SLR Stirling Moss
'10 Shelby GT500
Murcielago LP670SV
RX-3SP
Starion Turbo
MR2 Supercharged
'10 Boxster S
Panamera
599FX
'64 Impala SS
Fear not for the physics. Although there were compromises made in the interest of playability and accessibility, I think that the car dynamics will be pretty satisfying for you guys. The people that are largely responsible for the physics behavior are of a much higher caliber "car guy" then last time, and include a rally driver, a very experienced autocrosser, and a guy who used to design suspension bits for H&R, so I think as much as it is possible for a title like this, the physics will be on lockdown. I'm sure people will find things to nitpick with, but that's just the reality of designing a huge title meant to appeal to a very wide base of people in a compressed amount of time.
Someone give me like 3 grand so I can get that triple-tv setup going. Thats hawt. :P

am I the only one who say "aww christ" when I read no more tuner cars?
I generally only like to play these games to drive cars I could expect to be able to afford some time in real life. If this becomes Forza: A-spec like GT3 was I'll cry a little inside.
I really disliked the tuner cars in FM2, they tended to have stupid restrictions or dominated their class to the point that many race rooms would not let you drive them.

You realize, they're not talking about entry-level cars, and they're not talking about adding mods to cars -- they're talking about things like the Tommy Kaira cars, the "pretuned" set cars with locked paint jobs. Basically, the crap you kept winning in the career mode in FM2.
You'll still be able to buy a Civic and mod it out to your heart's content.

Oh. . . I didn't realize it was all of those pretuned shits they were talking about, god some of those were ugly. My interpretation was they took out most of the 80s and 90s asian cars and just left the civic and a few other of the popular cars like that. Since they brought kaido back I was really excited to do some stupid Initial D matchups and general tomfoolery.
basically, I just want to be able to throw a couple JZ-GEs into some sprinter treunos and see who dies first like I used to do back in Forza 1. . .
Everything about this is sounding good so far. I hated those tuner cars, they always looked ugly as hell, and I hated having one car, and then another uglier, yet slightly better version just sitting around.
I might have to finally upgrade to an hd set this fall.

yeah I read the tuners as import tuners which is what many people say when referring to things like civics, preludes, supras, rx7's, etc. and not as "cars that were tuned by groups like mugen, mine's, etc.
Like, Need for Speed Underground 2 let you adjust a car seperately for each mode (gear ratios, etc). And then from what I remember since, they either took the tuning feature out of any game after that or you had to go with whatever setup they wanted.
I'm not even a car guy and I still remember feeling awesome that I figured out how to tune my car specifically for the 'real track' races and the best config for drift mode.
Also it'd be cool if we could edit livery on the web with this one and then download the design to our 360s.
I hope that computer-controlled racers aren't all driving the stock versions of the car. Like, your character is the only dude who can do an engine swap? What the hell?
Also, U class is bullshit. Cars should upgrade into the lower R classes instead.

Was it even possible to be anything other than U999? every time I had a car go above S class it would always have 999PI it seems.
Eh, all the assist stuff can be turned off, so what's the big deal?
Oh, something else I want (but probably won't get):
Traction control, ABS, etc. shouldn't be in the difficulty settings, they should be upgrades that affect your car's PI rating.
I don't mind the assists at all. The more accessible, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
Since TC and ABS are very difficult to retrofit, I would like it even better if they were model specific. Like, if you drive a traditional Shelby Cobra, you would get better power/weight value per performance index. But, good luck putting all that power down. As a bonus, it would lead to being competitive with the old stuff as being somewhat of an achievement. Bonus points: If some cars (e.g. 2007 Lexus IS350) have a stability control too intrusive to reach their max performance, but you can't turn it off until you mod it so. For that matter, there should be a large difference between a car equipped with 1st gen ABS, versus ABS+EBD.
