A court in North Korea has sentenced two US journalists to 12 years' hard labour, state media say.
Euna Lee and Laura Ling were found guilty of "hostile acts" and illegal entry into the communist state.
They were arrested in March after allegedly crossing into North Korea from China.

I like to think that the reason starcraft is so big in south korea is that they've conditioned kids to think that learning how to excel at a strategy game will help them crush north korea

but I know that's not the case

also holy shit that was a loud thunderclap and I lost my train of thought

Not really, they got caught crossing the border. Not to say that North Korea isn't wholly and completely dickish about this, but if you get anywhere near the North Korean border, you're a fucking idiot.

Granted, do that in the US and you get free money, but that's how we roll.

It's speculated that North Korea may have nabbed them in Chinese territory though.

apparently they might have been taken while they were still in china

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine NK kidnapping people while china turns the other way.

Kim Jong Ill is pulling a Pony, and the country is going to be especially unstable while a successor is chosen and placed into power. Having two american hostages gives them leverage against the U.S., so we don't interfere.

Yeah, if North Korea nabbed someone in another country, this wouldn't exactly be the first time.

They've been doing this shit for years. North Korea kidnaps someone or fires a rocket or does some other crazy shit and the West and a few Asian powers play along, give them aid, and tacitly approve of Dear Leader and his insane government doing completely unacceptable things to foreign countries (as well as their own people).

The North Korean government is scum and how we're treating them currently isn't exactly making things any better.
