I think Valve should make it to where they physically CAN'T play the game. It would be funny.
And, that's what I get for not reading the last few posts before posting...
As for weapons, keep in mind that they also have to be balanced against the DICKS that are going to set their own teammates on fire, etc.
So, while I rocket launcher or grenade launcher or flamethrower sounds cool, I can assure you it would be hard to do because of FF.
Have constant heavy blur? Half the screen stays dark? WASD doesn't work and they must use IEDH only to move? Mouse only turns Left? Melee has a 10 second wait time for each swing? Gascans blow up while they hold them? Once incapped they will hear "You suck! You shoulda followed your own boycott." specifically to them?

It's not like you need more than the pump action shotgun to take down your entire team on expert.
Some sort of rocket launcher might be fun since you would be helpless during a panic event (can't pointblank shot a zombie and survive, or expect your allies to survive), but would be better equipped for taking out special infected, especially tanks. Maybe something for the melee specialist to carry around for emergencies. Of course the ease of OOPS I CLICKED CUZ I SAW A HUNTER LEAPING AT ME SORRY FOR KILLING MYSELF AND TWO OTHER GUYZ, would mean that this is a terrible idea.

I probably could keep going.
I'm not exactly 100% positive on this game, but being one who thinks the boycott is a terrible idea I find this amazing.
I'm pretty excited personally. If i don't buy it, it won't be because I'm angry at Valve, it's because there are 6 or 7 games coming out this fall that look awesome.
I think Maximumzero and I are the two folks most excited for L4D2.
I can't wait to bust up some zombie crawfish boils.
This whole situation has me more bummed out then I would like to admit. I like this game a lot. I'm excited for the next game. I want it to do well. It annoys me that their are people out there rooting for it to fail.

I'm hoping Valve takes the Jay and Silent Bob approach to those in the steam group. Bet they didn't anticipate having a nice and handy list of names and addresses like that, but who'd blame them for taking advantage of the situation.

I am pretty excited as well, I just don't care to post about it anymore and I'll just buy the game anyway. I liked the first game and I'll buy the second game. It's that simple to me.
I enjoyed the first game but felt it got repetitive after I had played it for a couple of weeks. If the sequel can add more variety than I'm all for it.

Less nerdfightin' about L4D2, more talkin' about L4D1 I say.
So I was playing a normal No Mercy co-op 'cause Killing Floor and other non-L4D games've put me out of whack with it, and I join up with a decent-enough pair, if quiet. We make it to the finale, get through the waves and've gotten to the chopper after a surprise tank chases Zoey around for a bit. She hops in and me and the other guy're expecting it to end - but apparently between the time that we left the radio room and the Zoey-chasing tank got smacked some other dude hopped into Bill-bot, who of course is on the other fucking side of the map and gettin' mobbed. He eventually bites it, we go to the chopper zooming out, credits roll - and the son of a bitch got Untouchables.
Spoiler'd for people who can't resist achievement whoring bug exploitation and that sort:
Seriously?
You really wanna' know?
Don't say I didn't give you a chance to avoid this if you're the kind of person I named.
I'm thinking that since he joined in right at the end (or at least after we called in da' choppa', I was a bit too busy to notice) his game didn't think that we'd called in the rescue and thus didn't add any damage incurred to whatever value it uses for the Uncouchables check, but since that value read as undamaged when the credits rolled the game went "Oh, Splendid! Achievement for you!" and gave it to him.
EDIT: I'll say this, using the server browser to look for games makes me wish that Valve updates it to search by strings instead of the whole - being able to just list campaigns on the first map by using "01" instead of having to use "l4d_(Campaign)01" would help things out greatly.
EDIT: And since they seem to me popping up more often, what's the deal with the supe-sized servers? Is there something special you have to do to get into those or what?

Also, Carbon Fire, you are a god among men when it comes to your game finding abilities. Seriously, the one time you come back and join we get some pro-level players making for one of the most intense and fun games I've had in a long time. We didn't win (by a long shot) but the communication and planning was just like old times.
I hope you stick around for a few more rounds (and that we can get some full fledge PA vs going like old times

If you're talking about 8 person coop, thats from a couple server mods added together. Raoul Duke knows the specifics. And to get them to work right, you have to start it as versus but then switch it to coop, meaning after its switched no one can join. You can get up to 16 survivors, but you can only get 8(maybe up to 12 with another mod) people in the server still.
I think Maximumzero and I are the two folks most excited for L4D2.

Im with you man. Its like I said earlier, its just the PC gamers who are pissed they have to pay for what they see as an update rather than a new game. PC gamers like things to be free. Their games are only already 20 - 30 dollars cheaper than all other ones but its blasphemy for them to pay for updates. Thats where the anger stems from.
I know there are people saying they want more of the people from L4D 1 but this isnt L4D 1 its L4D 2. Get used to it. Its a new game, not an update. But like I said, theyre just pissed it isnt free. If this were announced and then they said "AND ITLL BE A FREE UPDATE IN NOVEMBER!" theyd be praising this game and Valve right now. Saying how awesome itll be to play as what character and to use some crazy melee weapon, but I swear to god, the price is what is pissing em off. Even if they dont admit it, I know that is where most of this stems from. Ive paid for so many updates and add-ons to games on Xbox Live I cant even tell you how much Ive spent, but Valve wants to release a whole new game and its considered blasphemy.
Because honestly. A new game, new characters, new weapons, new zombies/special zombies, new maps, new game mode, new achievements. Thats a new game. Its worth money. Ill gladly pay it.
I realize Valve usually just updates games and gives new free maps and shit and they havent yet done that with L4D, but thats why they released the map creation for people, thats infinite maps, thats free. I think thats pretty good right there.
Yeah, this whole thing has me pretty angry right about now. Just knowing that right now if it were free everyone would be bowing down to Valve but also knowing theyre just mad that it costs money is just...oh man. You dont even know. Especially with how much praise L4D 1 got.
TLDR - Worth money. Buying this shit.

My new PC has arrived and I am dying to test it out by killing some zombies. I probably won't have L4D installed until tomorrow night, but I will be in for PA vs if people are around.
It seems you don't understand why people are actually frustrated at the moment.
Many gamers bought l4d with a sort of unwritten contract because valve said that they would update the game with Tf2 like patches (read small and/ or rare, but free with content that affected the game, not balancing tweaks alone) even stating that there will "definately" new campaigns new characters new special infected. People trust valve so they trusted that these things would come because valve said they would. It wasn't that we expected them because we are PC gamers so everything must be free! Valve gave us a verbal contract and we trusted them at their word.
Then, Valve went back on their word and that is the core of the problem. And, while I understand that in these uncertain times they would like to make their money so their familes can live, if they said that "Sadly, things have been changing and we think that this is the best route for our creativity, our name and our families" people would be much more sympathetic. However, what we get is the usual "Our product is good. Trust us" sort of line that doesn't give us any reason to actually trust them or understand why they are doing what they are doing.
I've said time and time again that I wouldn't mind paying for l4d2, just not at the price they are currently asking. Why? Because I feel it is currently more inline with the DLC you buy for the 360 or an expansion pack you would buy in the store. It seems like an interesting add-on with some ideas that might be great but also might blow back in their face all set in a location that promises to be full of atmosphere and death but handled poorly could just be more of the same.
Now, that could change completely in the oncoming months as Valve shows more of the game. But, seeing valve has gone back on their word once with this game (and in a very big way), I'm leaving the ball in their court to show me why I need to have it and why I will spend 50 dollars on their product.

Twas good games, and I agree, the harder the challenge, the more it makes me want to meet that challenge head-on. We were all pretty rusty that game, but we gave em a decent enough fight. Glad I was able to provide some service upon my return (apparently )
I'll probably try and poke in from time to time. I've been playing through some of the latest console curiosities, but PC gaming still owns my heart
Here's hoping that Valve realizes the value of a unified community. Otherwise, I'll soon be putting L4D back on hiatus this fall for some Borderlands/More Console action.
Yeah, I really hope they don't let the community get divided between the two games.
I think its already happened... so many people are all for l4d2 and so many others are dead against it (for some good reasons and some bad ones)
the solution would be as simple as valve giving a discount to those who already own l4d when they buy l42 (with proof of purchase of course.) It won't get everyone because sadly there are some people who think l4d2 should be completely free and that not one part of it should be paid for but I would like to think most fans are more reasonable than that.
Exactly. Its immoral to lie and its greedy and divides the community.
But i am sure it will be a great game. RRRage. But well, they know they can do this to us poor addicts. Making us pay twice for what should have been a major update. Somebody is going to get a huge negative karma score here. But it is not really like they care. Its like hunting sealions for pelts. I hope the lightening hits the toilet for this. Whilst occupied. Twice.

I think a good solution would be to simply have inter-operability between the two games. Specifically that the original campaigns should be playable from within L4D2 (assuming you purchased part 1 anyway. Or maybe even for free, it's been hinted that they're thinking of doing that for the console version, but nothing's been confirmed) , and that players in the new game can still play with players from the first game as long as they're in one of the original campaigns.
Do that and it makes sure to reduce the fragmentation of the multiplayer community. Basically a similar approach to what Relic did with Dawn of War. Each expansion pack was stand-alone and came with new races. All races were technically present in that expansion, but you could only play with the races that you had bought.

Again, basically UT2k3 --> UT2k4. You got Ut2k3 when you bought UT2k4, and Ut2k3 owners got a slight discount. Win-Win, unified community, thriving multiplayer and modding scene for YEARS after release.
L4D2 IS way more content than your typical free Valve content pack, and as such deserves some compensation for all the hard work that I'm sure has gone into it. At the same time, it's still very much the same game we all bought last year, only tweaked and tuned and reskinned (and yes, now with more maps). Whether Valve acknowledges that up front or make us wait for a sale, this is definitely going to be a "map pack" purchase for me.
Being Valve, I can't help but feel that they will give a substantial discount for L4D1 players, at least on Steam. At $30 or less, I'd get it day 1.
They've already said it's a full price title. Not that that necessarily precludes the possibility of a discount, but I would have expected them to mention something like that if they were planning on it.

Two things I can almost guarantee.
1. This game will be full-priced when it's released.
2. There will eventually be a weekend sale, probably within the first six months.
So if you don't want to pay full price, just wait a bit. No biggie.

Honestly, would it be better if they released each of the 5 new maps one at a time, at 10 dollars each? Would that somehow make you feel better?
