Top Chef MASTERS - reality cooking whores assemble

So the people who engrossed us with an iron whisk...
tom_colicchio_top_chef.jpg
padma%20lakshmi.jpg

are back with a new show.
Instead of Top Chef, where the up-and-coming chefs are judged by the masters of the craft, it is time for the masters themselves to compete. Of the cooking gods, who will win?

This starts in TWO DAYS.
Who is excited?!

I'm not sure Padma or Tom are in it, tbh.
I think Kelly Choi is hosting.

But from the clips I've seen, it looks great.
Seriously... Wylie Dufresne, Hubert Keller... all them COMPETING?

Elizabeth Falkner is a familiar face from Food Network. I hope she sticks around, since I remember liking her and she is pastry

Wylie is some kind of brilliant mad genius in the kitchen and Keller....he's god damn Hubert Keller.

I would like to see Gordon Ramsey in this, but I know he'd never do it.

When he cooks, do you hear Morgan Freeman in voice over discussing what's going on?

I think that the only former Top Chef contestant in this should be Harrold from the first season.

He was pretty damned good. Also, a nice guy. He was in our WoW guild.

And yea. He apparently was playing CoH with a few friends, made some friends playing that and then migrated to WoW with them. I knew one of them and the whole lot of 'em ended up in my guild.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dale or Hung on Top Chef: Masters, but not on the first season.

I would have said Blais, but Dufresne would crack his spine like a lobster shell.

You have to remember that these guys are pros. Having a microwave could be seen the same way among their fellow chefs as an athlete taking steroids for a competition.

You can never have enough Bourdain.
When I hear people say they dislike him, I immediate assume they know nothing about cooking.

Also Harold doesn't belong in Top Chef Masters. At all.
If anyone should go on the show for being amazing at cooking, it'd have to be Hung or Blais.
I don't think most of the rest of them qualify. Even those two are a bit inexperienced compared to the people on Top Chef Masters.

I havent watched it yet, but I'm hoping the judges are ok. I was bummed that Tom and Padma weren't on it, but god damn I love me some Gail Simmons, so I'm looking forward.

Oh any my predictions for winners would definitely be Hubert Keller, Dufresne, and maybe Nils or Art Smith as a dark horse. Kind of amusing to pick a "winner" since they're all fucking incredible. Most of them have at least one 4 star kitchen or a Michelin starred kitchen; it'd also probably be easier to pick out how many of them are NOT James Beard winners than those who are. So there aren't any losers anyhow...

This was great. Judges were super cool and totally professional, which I really appreciated. Yay for Gail.

haha "Redhead's [girl scout] gotta go."

Hubert Keller was awesome, as usual. I'm really looking forward to seeing Wylie Dufresne make awesome/crazy stuff and Rick Bayless and Art Smith totally kick everyone's ass. I've seen Elizabeth Falkner on the Food Network before, she made some horrible, weird cave thing for a Halloween pastry contest and lost. I'm not too familiar with some of the others.

To add in the accolades, more Bourdain is always welcome. Maybe season 2 can have him and Eric Ripert, April Bloomfield, David Chang, and a bunch of other super awesome chefs.

Also, a good portion of restaurants that aren't considered exactly star quality don't use microwaves either. I mean we never used a microwave over at Bertucci's. I never saw one at Legal Sea Foods. I never saw one at Houston's or M+S either.

I imagine the only restaurants that have a microwave are the mom and pop shops or places that can't afford a raised broiler.

I really enjoyed the first episode, my one complaint would be that they spent a lot of time with the chefs talking and less time with them cooking. It's awesome to watch that caliber of chef work and it would have been nice to see more of their technique.

I'm curious to see how the producers work the groupings with regards to guys they definitely would want in the final (Dufresne, Art Smith, etc.) because they can't make it obvious that they want them in but you know they so do.

I saw this last night. I missed the very beginning explanation so I thought for a while that the whole series followed four chefs and was confused when they started knifing everyone but Hubert.

I'm surprised Micheal Chiarello (I know it's misspelled) is here. His tenure at Food Network must be up, because I figured they would forbid any Food Network personality from taking part in Top Chef. I figured that's why Emeril only showed up after his time at Food Network was up.

I glad to see John Besh and Rick Bayless are here. In fact, I know a lot of the chefs in Masters from appearances on Iron Chef America, including Besh and Bayless, Anita Lo, Elizabeth Faulkner, Dufresne, Tim Love, and Christopher Lee.

Thankfully Bravo enjoys showing this type of stuff all the damned time, so I'll just catch it before next weeks new episode.
