Yeah, i dont understand how automata gets so many votes. There may be something buggy with the polls,,, then again, i'm sure The Neo Con Republicans might feel the same way...
Besides, i think it is fixed in Lookouts favor. You have Kiko doing that superb Logo for Lookouts--that's extra sauce right there.
Screw the Polls. Give me more Lookouts. For one thing, it has More Characters. The wise older teacher(yoda), the budding redheaded hero, the Hufflepuff that needs the most help, the dark haired anti hero, and the Fat kid.
It's Disney's Recess / Saved By the Bell meets The Dark Ages. There are 5 stories there plus the combination of their interactions.
Not qutie as interested in Automata and jim Darkmagic. As first issues go, there's no real hook. Am i interested in the robot's history? Where he came from? What he likes? his fears? his powers?
And Darkmagic is just a huge douche. A criminal douche murderer. Like Robert Downey Jr. says, you don't go full retard. You don't go full douche.

What's wrong with killing ppl that are oppressing you?
Because making them your willing slaves is much more cost effective.

It's s tough call, each one certainly has a lot going for them, although in very different ways.
Lookouts seems like it is going to just be a fucking festival of character development and interaction--look at how each of the kids has a distinct persona that Gabe so deftly created with just variations in expression and body language. You can tell that each of these little guys is going to bring something different to the storytelling. And the pack leader just seems to ooze the suggestion of a painful past along with his accumulated wisdom--the missing eye as a tangible metaphor of sacrifices made in order to gain knowledge in the ways of a harsh and unforgiving world. The juxtaposition of innocence and experience, enthusiasm and dread....it bodes well for a story that could be much more than just your simple, "here we go a-questing, whoop-dee-fucking-doo."
Automata also seems to offer great potential for stories that play out with us gradually learning more and understanding more over time. The relationship between Carl and the Detective is just beautifully designed for that kind of process--already you can see how they are like an old married couple who do truly care for each other, but who keep it all bottled up inside, so they can keep functioning...and it will take time for us to get insights into what is actually going on with them. I am already fascinated by Carl, so clearly much more than just a straightforward mobile data recoding and storage device with some comparative/analytical capability. His self awareness, his partnership with Regal, his understanding that he has to play a certain part, in order to be allowed to keep performing his role as a rational entity operating in a world that seems enthusiastically irrational....
In all honesty I would really like to see this one get the green light to go first,--I would enjoy seeing what the boys can do with it, and visually the overall look is just so goddamn elegantly oppressive..that, damn, I want to see more of it.
Which isn't to say I didn't like Jim Darkmagic. I have a soft spot for supremely silly shit, and this felt like a Pythonesque "Bored of the Rings" mashup that made me smile rather broadly, if not laugh out loud. The mixture of the utterly awful with the ridiculous is a classic form and was beautifully represented in this strip by Fair Maid's expression of surprise at being impaled by mystic ice while fucking burning to death. Jim's reactions are of course also wonderfully done as he goes from confidence to astonishment to terror to trying to recover--but the thing is here you had essentially a complete story in one strip. You know pretty much what is going on with Jim, you get his relationship to his assistant, and you know he's done this kind of fuck-up before and he'll undoubtedly do it again. And it will be just goddamn funny the next time too. Which means Jim and his magic can be brought out periodically as visual short stories. They don't need to be tied together into a larger fabric, and I'm not sure that doing so would work all that well anyhow.
So yeah, it boils down to I'd vote Automata and then Lookouts for full treatment.

Like I said, as a one strip thing I enjoyed Lookouts much more. But they also tell enough about who they are and where they're going to tide me over until whenever they decide to do it.
Automata could end up going a number of different ways, so it's earned my immediate curiosity. That's the only reason I'd rather see it first, which is really the only decision being made.

Jim Darkmagic kinda has its ending punch, it already seems final.

not deep fat frying
100 times yes. People voting for that bland sci-fi crap over the adorable boy scouts got something seriously wrong with them.
I just love fun.
Yes, yes you do.
Oh noes, people are dicks to a toaster. You are such nerds. :x
now shut the fuck up
I agree! Man, robots suck.
I'm actually hoping they investigate the murder.
Well, giving the amount of internet neckbeards I shouldn't have been surprised that machine noir wins.
Meh, I'll go binge drink some chocolate milk now.
Either way, I don't think I'll be displeased with any of the stories.
Yes because a Prohibition-esque setting is so bland you stupid fuck
Yes we voted for this because of neckbeards
Not the quality of that one page
No neckbeards
Stupid. Fuck.
That's why it's so unfair.
