    Why Kyle Baker? Why?

All my fears about Baker's switch to a "realistic," CGI-referenced style are coming true.

I like how it was the 4th image result in google that he pulled off "limousine"

All the artists are doing this now, and it's pissing me off. Quesada does something similar now with his layouts (the backgrounds are generated in 3D or something and he put his character in it), and it just looks flat.

The only artist who does it right is Maleev, because he'll go over the images (however roughly) to go with his art.

Going by the scans on SA, the only thing "referenced" is the discoball insted of the chandalier. Everything else looks it was run through some filters or whatever.

Well, I know both Quesada and Leinil Yu have used Google's SketchUp in order to organize backgrounds, and Quesada and Freddy Williams II both do their backgrounds digitally on a tablet now, so they can easily re-arrange and alter elements to their liking. But there's a vast wealth of difference between Googling and tracing a photo, and digitally creating a background.

Really, as long as it looks good and nobody's stealing photos, I don't care. Unfortunately, Baker's art fails both tests.

I've always wondered about Williams, because he has good art but when ever he does something small like a computer monitor int he background it has the same crispness that a regular full size drawing would. He just shrinks it down on the panel layout or something? He even has a book out for DC on how to digitally draw I think. I might have to look through it just to see how it's done.

That is so cool and answers my question. Williams needs a permanent gig somewhere, because he's a good monthly artist who is apparently great to work with and get commissions from.

Anyways, Josh Hoopes reappears ready to scam some more people.

And Mark Waid is being a twat again.

Wow, Quesada sure does like poking fun at DC. I don't think Didio even mentions Marvel in his 20 answers thing.

That's because DiDio's an adult. Albeit a severely disturbed one by all appearances.

OK I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep (It's a little past 6 am for me now) and I'm reading Bendis's twitter page and he mentions that Howard Stern is talking about Captain America. Assuming he means issue 600, that means some major shit is going down.

from the NY Daily News article:
"Consumers are responding to it like crazy," said Gerry Gladston, co-owner of Midtown Comics in Manhattan. "They don't feel like it's a stunt."

    Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/arts/

It is a stunt, genius. Everyone called it months ago.

It's stupid. It's been 2.5 years, but only what, 6 months Marvel time? And Bucky has only really been Cap for about a month or two I guess.

I get a feeling Brubaker didn't want this to happen, but he was forced to in order to stay in good standings with Quesada and allow books like Incognito to remain under the Icon imprint. This really can't be a part of his plan for Cap. "Ok, I'm going to bring Bucky back, have him be Cap for 15 issues, and then bring Steve back! It won't seem forced at all!"

I originally was a big Joey Q fan, but he has been in the "Vince McMahon" frame of mind for the past few months at Marvel and its starting to get annoying. Hell, I thought Didio was batshit loco at times during Comic Con interviews in regards to explaining the Final Crisis mess to the public.

And I agree about Brubaker being forced by the ego of Quesada to go through with this. The "Lets bring Steve back 6 months 616 time" does not scream Brubakerish at all.

Wasn't it Brubakers idea to kill of Cap in the first place? Back when Steve died I heard Marvel had planned over two years of stories without him so this isn't that surprising. I doubt Quesada just threw this on Brubaker at the last minute or anything. Plus this doesn't mean for sure that Bucky will go back to being, well, just Bucky.

He didn't throw it on him last minute, he just probably told Brubaker "Hey, we're bringing Cap back. Since you've been writing Cap you can write it and Hitch can delay it for you, or we can find someone else."

It also makes the whole Fallen Son series and everyone's reaction to Steve's death seem so over the top and pointless, especially in the Marvel world where people die and come back all the time, to the point where it can be made fun of as a casino setting waiting for a payout. Every hero in the marvel universe should have Siryn's attitude towards death (like her father's), where you just don't believe it because they're going to come back so why cry about it.

To me, this is a case of death being used so much that because they haven't stuck to their guns and kept anyone but Jean dead for a long period of time it just puts everything that came before it in a bad light.

Would Jeph Loeb then be Owen Hart falling to his death then? I do know watching that PPV that was when I quit watching wrestling, even a teenager I realized "you can't keep going on when a guy just fell 200 ft onto the ring. Chyna couldn't even keep in character" And I think they even did a casket match that night as well. Just bizarre.

And Tom Brevoort would be Jerry the King Lawler, always thinking McMahns shit doesn't stink, and Bendis would be Kane, and Brubaker would be Edge or Christian.....

First of all, Jeph Loeb is always going to be the coolest kid in that Marvel writers' retreat conference room. He came from Hollywood. It's like inviting your awesome cousin from L.A. to hang out with you. He's from where they all want, or many at least and the rest just seem to be varying degrees of positive towards it, to be. If not for the economics (You read about a seven-figure bidding war for a Where's Waldo script if you're a writer and the fire it lights under your ass either burns your insides out or gets you fucking moving) then the relative prestige.

It's an entertainment experience that they're selling, and we're part of it. All this *points around to GV* and all of the other forums, news sites, podcasts, creator sites and twitter nonsense, all that shit is part of the same concept: Keeping people talking about your product all the fucking time. It's actually a pretty novel concept. Joe Quesada runs Marvel like a permanent political campaign complete with exclusives, leaks, and so forth. But they've definitely engaged in a purposeful engagement of the fans that is still fairly unique within media. I mean, I've seen the same thing done in RPGs during the time I was into them and not reading comics, but they benefited from a smaller fanbase. But what has helped several of them, especially when the largest producer was actually being a dick towards its fans online until a decade ago, was that it was small and there was an engagement--an intentional one in the case of several companies--to a process similar to this. Pulling up online fans through the year into making the books has definitely made it worthwhile to get involved. And that's really the one thing that Marvel specifically has not done (although to be honest I'm in favor of this because Promoted Fanboys tend to be the worst kind of continuity whores, often to make up for actual writing talent) and has in fact come out, really, against when it decided last year to stop accepting blind submissions.

But, yeah. It's an entertainment experience way beyond comics. It has to be to keep attentions, and it's useful to generate buzz when necessary (which is always) for a relative pittance in actual money expended.
