    I wanna visit North Korea

There is a legal way to take DPRK guided tours via a beijing based agency but I'm broke and have never left Amurrika

    One day, perhaps

    good christ

I make one tiny joke about nuking Africa and suddenly everyone's all about cutting off all emergency aid

yeah, emergency food aid will not solve the continent's problems

but if they don't get it millions die

    so...

    it's just really depressing

best way to describe the country is grim

the guides say what they say, and they show you what they want you to see, but it's not so hard to draw your own conclusions when you tour

I mean, it's not like South Korea is the best country in the world

but you just come back from the oppressive grayness of NK and all of the sudden all the glitzy in-your-face commercialism feels like a breath of fresh air

This is the photo diary of a European tourist

    It is so fascinating

[edit] I'm super jealous, man. Were there any highlights at all you recall specifically or was all just Orwellian and depressing

It's legal, but you should be prepared to give "gifts" or pay an "extra fee" if you want it to actually happen. I don't know if they do it to everyone, but whenever you read about Americans getting in, some official or other will ask for a bribe in order to push it through and threaten to either not file the paperwork or let it take months to happen.

Who has the link to that Vice video?

They took us to some major monuments, gave us a few propaganda speeches on the go, nothing I didn't expect. We didn't go to see Il Sung's body, line was way too long and the weather was crappy. But what I remember most of all was the greyness. It could've just been the weather, but it was also the buildings, people's clothes and faces, the fog over the fields. It really did seem like an extremely joyless place.
