Well, Valve has said that they realize the importance of cross-play between the two games. I have no idea what that means or what they plan on doing, but it gives me hope.

But not just for convenience sake, but for a unified community as well. When you make maps, you want as many people to enjoy it as possible. If you add all the new hotness from L4D2 into a custom map, it means half your potential audience now cannot enjoy that content. Either Valve bundles L4D with L4D2, or they shut out half their community.
Because seriously, if they DON'T bundle it but allow L4D owners to play with the new content, what would be the freaking point in BUYING L4D2? You know those official maps will get renamed and shared as "custom maps" the instant the game is released. Conversely, L4D2 owners could just download all the L4D1 content recompiled to work with the new game. Obviously this is not possible on the 360, but they should be used to being screwed over by a closed system by now :P

Valve said in the first couple months of L4D, "Yo guys, expect mad gear and loot sons for L4D! We're Valve, we'll hook you up!"
We said, "Ok sweeeeeet that's what I'm talkin bout, lots of variety involved into the game. Sick updates, rad."
Valve: "Oh no, nevermind we're just not going to release any DLC and wait 6 months to bring L4D TWO TWO TWO TWO.. twoo... twooo! Sit in awe at the 2 after the L4D, it clouds your judgement."
L4D Community: "Shit, well that stinks.. This doesn't seem like Valve, why would they cop out like that?"

Dunno, depends on how well you can aim. I've both used and seen the HR used to completely decimate at any range. Hell, I've seen it used more effectively than a auto-shottie at point blank.

Zero-Scope Sniping at that point. Just aim for the head and fire. It becomes a lot like the AR at that point, and its' effectiveness largely depends on your ability to prioritize targets and use each shot to do multiple kills.
