I've started to supplement the chat with sending unsolicited invites to people whose status says "online" and I know have played L4D in the past. If this gets annoying, tell me and I will stop, but it seems to make it easier to get real versus games going.

No, I like it. I prefer co-op and survival to versus.
The problem I have with Expert is that once I've done all four campaigns in a short enough timeframe, I'm not in the mood to do any of them again for a while.
I joined the chat room last night roughly around 8:30pm.
Out of the 12 people in the room, 8 were all in one game, and the other 4 were playing different Steam games. Which meant I had nobody to shoot zombies with.
Snare Speak enables voice-chat across team boundaries when a survivor is subdued by an infected. The infected that snared the survivor can speak to the snared survivor, and the snared survivor can speak to the infected that snared him. This does not destroy the connection a player has with his own team, it only creates an additional duplex channel between the snaring infected and the survivor. This lasts the duration of the snare, and then the communication channel is closed.
I imagine it will make stomps a lot more interesting. I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

That's awesome, I played with snare speak a few weeks back and it was awesome!

So the pubs can call our mothers faggots and us jews while they have us pounced?

Is there a simple way to connect to your specific server from lobby? sv_search_key just looks through the bank of PA servers. I'd think snare speak would make the increasingly rare full PA versus games more interesting since you'd know whose guts you are ripping out.

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying, trying to find this server (or similar) tonight was a complete failure.
We tried that for like 30 minutes and couldn't get it to work even after typing sv_cheats 1 (Why is a server connect command considered a cheat?). Directly connecting to the server via the console command "connect" and server browser failed as well.
Edit: Are the quotation marks important? Lobby leader might have just typed it in without them.
Today I enlisted a dude to me my campaign alpha tester guy and we ran through the (extremely unfinished) first map of my campaign, first on normal, then on expert where he died, then on versus as infected against a team of survivor bots. It's already fun! Game totally knows where to spawn witches and tanks.
temporary poster used for loading screen olol
The .vpk system for distributing stuff really is more awesome than I expected it to be, it's super easy to do and then shit just works the way it oughta. Makes a guy want to mod shit all day long... which, being woefully unemployed, is kind of what I do lately.
It will connect you to a specific server. The 0s replaced with the actual IP, obviously.
I've never gotten this command to work. Ever.
However, if I figure out how to update my L4D server (assuming it needs an update) I'll install the plugin there and you guys can try it out. search key is "exoplasm".
For whatever reason, sometimes it doesn't work for me either. When that happens, I just use the "connect IP" command to check if the server is running/full/whatever. If it isn't full and I load in fine, I just try again. I've never had it fail after doing that.
what I am thinking is that the server in question was down. I connect IPed into several other servers last night all with team speak, but all only had one empty spot at most.

Do you need testers? I've just got L4D working and I am preternaturally available
First, my server is updated. search key is still "exoplasm". It has a few sourcemod plugins, namely one that prevents team killing in the starting area of each map (no more griefing on the roof in NM1), the previously mentioned Snare Speak, and "crouch to let go of the ledge, emo kid".
Next, I set up a web page where my fellow Armadeaddon mans can upload VPK files to my server. This way you don't have to wait for me to get around to doing it, or hope you find a server that has that brand new VPK you found. Unfortunately it's 6AM and despite my lack of A.D.D while working on this, I've not yet gotten to the point where it is fully automatic. Right now it just allows uploading, and I will manually move the files over. Eventually I will have it automaticaly unzip any zip/7z files and move/copy the VPK files to the L4D addons folder. That page is here: http://l4d.howstuffdoesnotwork.com/
The user/password for uploading files is wang/wang. But you guys knew that.
Edit: Anyone know how one could script commands to the hlds console? apparently have to type update_addon_paths;mission_reload in the console each time a new vpk is added.

Is there a mod to be able to release a snare? That would add a level of complexity that could "mix things up" a bit.

Same. Is it just me or has Steam been having these outages more and more lately?
Hurrah!

good, then I don't need to stop downloading my porn... I mean corn... yes I am downloading corn.
myself as well, although after pubstomping as much as I have, I can say that with a competent opponent versus is much harder then "expert".
I should also close out on survivor mode because two of the three achievements I still been are survivor mode.

I might be confused, but it appears that all of your servers in your sig are set to C-Op and not to versus (all have max 4 players)
Is there a mod to be able to release a snare? That would add a level of complexity that could "mix things up" a bit.
You set all that in the lobby the server changes max players depending on game mode.
