This video is a lot slower then expected. Here is what I've made for me 3D environment class.

Ok, that was pretty sweet. Didn't expect the eyes, and the way they seemed to interact with the camera, and each other, was kinda cool. It has a real, Blizzard feel to it. It almost looks like something I'd see in WoW as an instance. They always have a great sense of scale and space in there dungeons.

yes, this was built for the openings on the WoW environment team. My instructor is going to show it to the team. I'm planning on doing another one by blizzcon.

Needs some porno music and a few star wipes.

Seriously though, pretty cool prox, but what's with the low res textures?

EDIT: Oh WoW, okay that makes sense.

Im gonna go back in and increase the detail, but I need to remain at this texture size. That's why I like WoW though.

Cool stuff, although i got really confused by the scale. The hallways seemed fucking huge, then human size. Depending on where the camera was. The big chamber seemed fucking gigantic at some points, then, eh, not so big. Was hard to get a feel for how big 'I' was supposed to be, I guess.

Yeah I need to add skeletons and weapons and small stuff to set the scale. It's supposed to be a pretty huge room.

    Thanks beavo!

The eyeballs should blink a few times when they first open, kinda like somebody when they just wake up (I'm getting an ancient-horror-newly-awakened feeling from it, so I feel like it should be a little groggy)

maybe give them a second set of eyelids like amphibians and such usually have, so they can blink occasionally

As somebody who has played a lot of WoW, I can confidently say this is so WoW-like that you could very, very easily pass it off on the net as a leaked early build of one the the next expansions instances.

Has the perfect feel of those massive hand painted textures, the sense of scale etc. Looks like SSC mixed with RFC or something. I almost thought when you first go into the big room and see the 'teeth door' kind of thing, that you'd actually ripped the model from the entrance to Onyxia's lair.

This is great stuff, I can absolutely tell what you're going for and you're nailing it, keep makin' it better and better, if any of the bliz guys do get to see it I think they'll be impressed.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This is part of the portfolio I am preparing for Blizzcon. With some more hard work I will be able to land a job there. I hope I hope I hope.

After doing all this the next project will go 10x faster.

I hope you've got a much faster run-through of this, then? I definitely think you could speed it up a bit and not lose anything. The eyeball part could probably stay the same speed.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. :( Could you maybe post a few more angles?

Also, I'm not sure if this'll help you out or not, but it may at least give you some ideas on color:

    Update:

    tower_basic_2.jpg

I need to paint some vertexes but I was able to do a lot with lighting. Now everything fits together better. All the UVs are in place, so I pretty much need to paint the thing to a finish.

I plan on adding spec maps as well as particles.

    Thanks Ruka'!

I've been working on this one for abooout 40 hours now. I started it before I took my environmental modeling class. Since then I've learned a lot about efficiency, and can probably do one from scratch much faster. This is my 2nd environment type piece for my portfolio and I hope I can get much faster.

    really nice stuff, prox

is that a typical polycount for an environment piece for a game like WoW? I'm just starting to learn 3d modeling, and everything we're doing is basic prop design with an emphasis on low poly modelling, so seeing 17k tris made me involuntarily wince, but I'm not familiar with environmental work.

Ah, actually the ground is about 10k polys. The entire thing is around 7k.

For an MMO every poly counts. What I've heard is that typical set is around 9k. Keep in mind not all of this is rendered at once. Even less indoors. Also there will be LOD models set up for things like terrain. Draw distance and hardware fog also reduce the load.

not a lot about environment modeling, but if you're interested in low poly stuff, you might get a kick out of this board, especially this thread

some of their low-poly models blow my mind. all these high quality character models under 500 tris... crazy
