So my great friends have decided to take me to Vegas in September for my bachelor party but we're a little on the fence about the hotel.
What is a great hotel, for the money, on the strip or within a 10-15 minute walk?
Things that are important to me are:
Great/Awesome huge pool open LATE (24hr would be awesome)
Decent sized rooms.
Good/cheap buffet food (all you can eat all day for $x is preferred)
Friendly staff.
We are not rich men but we'd idealy like to do the following while there for the 2 days.
Drink.
Boobies?
Drink.
ride motor vehicles in the desert?
rides/attractions/shows etc..
I can probably get a budget number but just pretend we're poor-ish.

Okay, not really, You don't want ( and for those who have'nt seen "The Hangover" don't look)
But seriously, here is what I can suggest...

Circus Circus is considered cheap, low rent by many Hotel snobs, but it is actually quite nice for the money. It is not "Motel 6 like" as many Vegas Hotel Snobs would like you to think. You are trying to spend as little money on Hotels as possible. Plus its right off the strip.

Great/Awesome huge pool open LATE (24hr would be awesome) I'm not for sure if the majority of the pools in Vegas hotels are opened 24 hr. But if you can deal without a 24hr pool and have $20, you and your boys get your assess to the Ventian and up to Club Tao's "Beach". The Vegas locals call it "The Beach" but it is actually a pool like resort with multiple sports bars with spas spraying cool mist of water to combat the Vegas Heat. If you hear club music in the back corner, pay the $20.00 entrance fee and enjoy the awesome eye candy galore. Fun times to be had. (Not advocating any further naughtyness here. Look but don't touch would be the norm :winky:)
Decent sized rooms. Most of the big Hotels on the strip have decent sized rooms. If you want the penthouse suite style rooms, prepare to pony up some cash.
Good/cheap buffet food (all you can eat all day for $x is preferred) This is a tough one, as Vegas will milk you for your dollars as much as possible. Hell, I don't even gamble in Vegas and the buffets run an average $12- $17 dollars for normal aged adults for each visit. Also, bottled water, EVERYONE charges an arm and a leg for bottled water. If you all can go to the west side of Las Vegas to a Walmart and stock up on water bottle there then it should be no problem.
Friendly staff.I had no problems with staffing at any of the major hotels off the strip, but I'm an easy going kinda guy and understand when the staff is overwhelmed at times. Your expectations on what constitues as great service might differ though.
Overall, enjoy it and congrats on your nupitals. Such a durty sounding word, I know.
We actually ended up going with the Flamingo. Thanks for the advice on the buffet's, I had been led to believe buffet's in vegas were super cheap like $5-$10.
I did look at the majority of hotels and most pools seem to close around 6pm but we'll definitely check our "the beach".
Totally unhealthy of course, but it isn't that uneconomical a way to eat. This was at Excalibur, which aside from having a decent buffet I wouldn't recommend.

Where is a good place(s) to get good and loaded for cheap? I don't mind paying for a drink at a nice place but it would be nice to get "The Hangover" drunk inexpensively.
The $20 blackjack tables is a great place to get drunk cheap. LOL

Also, and this should go without saying, but tip your waitress.
Well sure, but you'll be doing that if you go to a bar or not. Do it at the penny slots, and at least the drink is "free". And shit, you might win a few bucks on accident and fund the rest of your drinks for the party.

this has very much not been my experience in vegas
I can't remember (because of all the free alcohol) how many times I've walked into a casino, sat at a penny slot machine and gotten a beer within 5 minutes. You don't even need to put a buck in the machine a lot of time.
It also depends on what time of day you're doing this. At 9 o'clock at night, waitresses are a little harder to come by than at 2:45 in the afternoon. They just might not pay as much attention to the small fish in the penny slots at night.
As a (former) local, this a thousand times over.
It's expensive.
It's over fast.
But god damn if it isn't fun unloading a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) into a zombie-target.
I'll post up a couple more things to do when I get back from lunch.
This is what I came here to say. I got mad drunk doing this. As far as cool places, there's an "Irish" casino on the strip that has live music at night. It's a pretty cool place to chill for a bit and drink for nearly free.
