This thread is a repository for all winning entries of the create a superhero/villain contests we're doing. This thread will contain a rudimentary schedule, as well as a list of winning entries, with links to the entries themselves. Eventually it can become a repository for stories set in the world that's being created as we go. You are free to discuss things in this thread, but keep it strictly to the contests and everything associated with them.
Pretty much. The only thing that should change is the theme. Unless people have suggestions to make these run a little better, in which case I'll make modifications.
every entry I do from here on out will somehow tie into Jack of the Second Dimension just so I can say every character I have is in continuity because I'm a jerk

And every future entry I make will be in continuity with Mighty Mouse.
That's fine. For some reason no one can pronounce my name correctly when I tell it to them, so it often ends up being, "no, 'Manon' like 'cannon' and then I have to follow it up with "but like the camera company, not the weapon" or else the fuckers spell it with an extra N in the middle.
I think we can burn that bridge when we come to it, but if you want to incorporate it into your stuff, I don't really see a problem. Also if you want to do stuff in Sentry Duty with characters here, it should probably be fine.
I think you can use the characters you create here as the "real" superheroes in Sentry Duty if you want
Just make sure you
A. Credit the creators of said superhero
and
B. Get permission to use them
I also don't want them to be the main thrust of the story, because it conflicts with the whole nature of what Sentry Duty is.
However, I don't really want the reverse to be possible. I want Sentry Duty to really be its own entity as it's end result is in a completely different arena than the ones from the contests here.
Of course the Red Rooster/Commandant Gobbledy team-up is an exception to this rule because come on
I actually might write my second story based on that
a dude gets sentry duty and instead of trying to fight the villain, he joins a justice league analogue to try and find out the secret identities of the members to sell to TMZ
Okay. We've completed the first three themes. What I'd like to do now is get a feel for how everyone feels about these contests. If you have any suggestions or complaints, now is the time to make them. Also, I'd like input on where you guys would like this to go next.
There are a couple of ways we could go. One is that we could have a story contest, for people to work with the characters that have won so far. Another thing would be to determine the next set of themes, and start on the next round of contests. And if you have any other ideas, please post them.
I personally think both options could be running simultaneously. The story contest would probably need a lengthier deadline than the hero contests, and the theme polls require very little work.
I like the idea of both options running simaltaneously. You'll have to be pretty lenient with the deadline for the deadline, I think, due to TLB's thing running as well.
I kind of think maybe there should be less options than (20?) for the theme threads though. It was so spread out that you didn't really need much of a majority to qualify.
I think the theme-voting is an unnecessary complication to the process. I'll suggest again that the winner of the previous contest decide the theme for the next contest and is then exempt from entering that one. It gives extra incentive, and should smoothly help the transition between each one.
I agree the theme vote makes the thing take longer than needed especially since nothing I wanted to do won anyway and I still submitted stuff for all the polls. Anything that quickens the process would be appreciated.
Writing stories for the winners seems like it would a) take too long and b) trample all over the original concept since we only have a paragraph to go through. However, I think pitches for those characters along the lines of the ones posted in the 'keep motivated' thread that Munch posted for Blue Beetle and Shazam would work.
These contests are for fun. Part of the fun is deciding what we do. I'd rather not have the next three contests be "make your best hero with dick in the title" because all the power is in one person's hands.

You're welcome for that boost of votes after my totally awesome colored picture was posted.

8-)
t synth next contest is when I get home from work
Like, do one myself and then draw for someone or something like that?
Or would that be v. bad?
I have ideas, man
Or you could give me credit and Geebs could let me work on more than one thing maybe
Also: I am not the art slave unless Blank is drawing me some outlines!
He has not said anything about doing this!
and if you are doing my project you might not do blank's idea since blank sucks at writing scripts on time ever
you will get the first completed good script I get that needs an artist
which may not be blank's
because he sucks
It is like a vortex, sucking me in
