    Video driver problem maybe?

There's a dialog somewhere in the control panel, lets you control the level of hardware acceleration for watching video. There's a few problems you can fix by reducing the acceleration to anything other than max hardware acceleration. This was under XP or older though.

The problem here is you've installed a codec pack, which probably includes Xvid/Divx already, and then installed a whole other codec for Xvid/Divx. This has created a conflict.

Uninstall every player and codec you have, except for WMP because it's a pain to remove. Then go to cccp-project.net and run the Insurgent. Check to see if there are any remaining codec packs listed on the far left. If so, try to find them and remove them. If no, download and install CCCP. Just leave everything default, except for file-type associations if desired. Use Media Player Classic to open videos. If all went well, you should be able to play pretty much any codec.

K-Lite is known for causing conflicts because of the amount of codecs it has. At times it can even conflict with it's self depending on the software trying to use the different codecs.

CCCP is the way to go, especially for older systems.

What I love most about Win7/WMP12 is that it comes with basic codecs now that can play most videos.

Yeah, watching my porn was much easier under W7 than any other windows release! Didn't have to download anything to view my collection of classy ladies.
