Hmm, there doesn't seem to be an obvious pattern. That's sort of a shame, especially if they've never fixed the problem where the site will skip a comic some times.
I do recall someone at the MIT talk asking why there aren't more non-white characters, and Gabe and Tycho said they didn't put any black people in the strip because they didn't want to look racist. I think they were afraid anything they did would be taken and used against them, so they just ignored all non white characters forever.
I guess it....sort of works? At least when we get Khoo now, it's all the more awesome.

I don't think I liked his latest iteration.
Off the top of my head, the Rock Band one, Crimson Skies, "honeyed words from a fair weathered friend!", Portland China, and Kamikaze uncles.
There was one other one, I think. Cause I don't remember hating his look in those comics.

That was the Crimson Skies one I mentioned. I still use the phrase "Do you trust me your friend, or cold unfeeling technology?" to this day.
