LETS GET READY TO RUMBLETRY AND STOP ME
HOW I PRESERVE DEMOCRACY?
Taking battleground Liberal/NDP seats
is easier then fighting the government.
Sup guys, I'm
still the kingmaker that everyone courts when they aren't scapegoating Quebec.
Updated news:
- Tories blocking parliamentary proceedings on torture boondoogle and have been roundly spanked by Colvin
- Harper is running away from the MPs so we can have a "nice" Olympics
- There is no legal basis for the GG to not approve the request to prorogue, despite what you may hear from the opposition
- The Senate will be firmly stacked for the Tories after the break

Honestly, the picture of Harper with that fake smile and a kitten in his hands is the one that freaks me out the most.
It's really makes you fear for the kitten.
But really wasn't his government supposed to have fallen by now?
The Government can't fall when the House isn't sitting.
Patience, patience. EI is still mostly working, life goes on, and nobody really cares that some brown people got fucked in the ass by our government while they were in Africa. Iggy has to bide his time until Harper really fucks up to call an election.
Some people are saying that the appointment of the NDP Premier to the USA ambassador position is going to stop the NDP from toppling the government. I believe those people are wrong.
To be fair, though, he's the least NDP-like NDP leader I know of. Which has worked pretty well for him. Ten years in office and some high approval ratings have to mean something.
It has always been this way. East vs. West (vs. Quebec vs. Maritimes) has basically defined Canadian politics for quite some time.
Canada is very diverse in terms of geography, climate, and culture (to name just a few). This can make it very difficult to get along with other Canadians, politically.
The specific "Man, fuck the prairies" that was going on in the last thread though, was probably given that the prairie provinces are pretty much where all the Conservatives come from and most of the folks posting in this thread aren't too fond of Conservatives.
Not that we have any idea what to do that is any better. Fuck, I used to vote Liberal with a clear conscience. But then again, I used to be 18.
The one where he's at the Stampede in the Cowboy hat and (shudder) leather vest? AH!
That one in the OP with him what looks like contemplating cooking the kitten for dinner? AH! AH!
He's like Data from Star Trek. Any time he attempts real emotion it just looks awkward and weird.

Liberals are corrupt, mildly inept, and poll-guided.
But.
They're the middle of the road, "Canada" party. They balance the crazy socialism of the NDP with the bootstrappyness of the CPC. Also, they don't call their opponents pedophiles, which is nice.
"Charity volunteer assaulted by PM's security"
Its one of the joys of living in Ottawa, you randomly run into the PM if you do any charity work, and he's just as creepy in person, and looks morbidly obese... those photos are pretty flattering.
* can anyone confirm or point me to a credible source suggesting the PM and his wife are on the road to splitsville? * it's the rumor floating around here from people who know the PM better than I, but I can't find anything to verify that.
Also, I did not know if you don't live in Canada for 5 consecutive years, you can no longer vote even if you're still a citizen.

It really wouldn't surprise me, most highly visible politicians have very strained relationships with their spouses, beyond them farking around like crazy.
OH GOD WHY DID I SUDDENLY GET A PICTURE OF HARPER GETTING LEWINSKY'D OH GOD FUCK FUCK FUCK NO
The West vote Reform, which swallowed the PC party we need so badly today.
The country needs ANOTHER not-crazy party to keep the Liberals from getting too corrupt and set in their ways.
That's enough reason to hate the west right there.
Plus, they whine like little bitches all the time.
At any rate, even without time to look into the issue more thoroughly, I'm not a fan of the Demers appointment.
It's not senate stuffing however. That's like complaining that the party in power is making laws. That's what they do.
If you ever need to talk to someone, feel free to message me. Yes, that includes you.
No party has a stranglehold on being corrupt, and no party is exempt.
Edit: I think Wil Ferguson put it rather properly when he said that Canadians spend their lives looking for the happy middle, or any middle really. That's not the exact quote. I'll have to look it up when I get home. It's in the book "How to be a Canadian"

Um, no shit. Who the fuck ever said it was only a Liberal thing?
The point is, you leave one party in power too long, and they fester. This has happened to the Liberals. But the PC party collapsed too soon to ride that Anti-Liberal wave to power and instead married themselves to the fucking crazies in the Reform party.
Which really makes me wonder every election what the results would look like if people actually grabbed a brain and voted the way they wanted instead of trying to "strategically" vote. Perhaps the NDP and Greens would have those seats people think they should have eh.

I feel sorry for my parents and the eternal damnation that is having Cheryl Gallant as your MP.
I thought the initial rush to fill the vacancies was to throw a wrench into the coalition agreement more than anything else. I'm not saying I like it, but we all know those seats are getting filled almost solely with party loyalists. The only difference is to which party they're loyal.

Thank you for this. It's always nice to know that the work I do to get the people around me to stop blaming 'Eastern Canada' as if it were some sort of boogeyman is appreciated and reciprocated.
Honestly, Shryke, people like you are the worst part of Canadian politics. This is why people like Harper end up in power. Because the West feels isolated and marginalized and ends up slowly becoming more and more extreme when the vastly more populous East paints us all as redneck neanderthals.
Dude has EARNED my vote.
Ridings are how we roll eh
It's good when it works, it's supposed to elect people who will represent the interests of your region instead of people who will work for the maximum number of popular votes. For example, Dennis Mills worked as a MP should work (worked tirelessly for his riding, advocated its issues in the house) whereas Mr Jack Layton has done um... stuff?
That was so fucking annoying. Oh hi we're freezing and it's MINUS FUCKING 40 OUTSIDE IN THE MORNING and you won't get involved because you think it will reflect poorly on your labour issues record? Fuck you, you gutless shit stains.
Ugh what a trainwreck that strike was. Fucking MPs riding to work in their cars, laughing at everyone hiking and biking through the coldest part of winter.
Yeah, cause the West never maligns the east. Nope, never.
Fuckers vote Reform. What more need be said?
And Easterners vote NDP. What more needs to be said?
You could say that Alberta had some people whispering in their ear that Trudeau's efforts to minimize the energy price shock out east stopped Albertans wiping their ass with hundred dollar bills, that equalization payments have suddenly become a burden for the recently prosperous state, that the insanely rapid development of the province from dustbowl to oil empire has caused massive social rifts, that Alberta was riding on an oil and cocaine high for decades, that the American propoganda from Reagan spoke directly to poor Albertans more then any other part of Canada, and that Alberta is probably one of the most fascinating provinces to examine over the past hundred years.
Or you could go yeehaw fuck you western Canada.
That the NDP will only worrie me when they can actually get voted in.
