I had a guy literally tell me that I couldn't just "be cool with gay people"
In his mind if I wasn't actively hating gay folks then I was doing it wrong
There were other ones in my flight but he was the worst
Of course there was also a dude who lost his last job and his girlfriend when he banged his girlfriend's mom so I mean you take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have the facts of life
What's the cost of living in Seattle, by the way? I've been poking around to find somewhere awesome to live in a few years, and Seattle seems like a cool place.
You can find a bedroom in a shared apartment for about $600 all included if you look around enough, especially if you're willing to commute. The main trick is that it can take a LONG time to find an apartment. People here have some really weird rules.
Isn’t OS X’s only BSD overlap that it’s based in Mach?
That's actually where they don't overlap
XNU (OS'x Kernel) is based on Mach 3.0 with the networking stack, VFS layer, POSIX API interface, and some other bits from FreeBSD implemented on top of the Mach primitives.
Mac OS X itself, apart from the kernel, also uses FreeBSD's userland, and Apple employs a number of major FreeBSD contributors

He's a nice guy except for all of the people he isn't nice to.
J, ever girl I ever had a crush on voted Republican.
What I'm saying is that it doesn't really matter.
EDIT: Also I have terrible tastes in women.
It does matter. When people go beyond their personal beliefs and try and inflict that way of life upon others via the government it matters.
You are basically saying people should never vote.
Look, people are allowed to vote, for whatever, and you can judge them for it, if you like, but the way to combat that is to vote against the things they vote for, not bring them over to your house and systematically destroy their belief system with logic.

One of the few times you will see someone use "wreck his shit" literally.
I'm not exactly a white knight of morality myself, and I've lived a rather questionable life of actions that I haven't really paid full recompense for.
So, I often don't have much of a high horse to get on with folk. Also, the reality is that a lot of what people think and say are just thoughts and words, and don't usually turn into any meaningful actions.
I have acquaintences who are racist, homophobic, sexist, religiously intolerant, etc.
Undesirable personality traits, for sure, and definitely reasons I wouldn't consider those people friends and I keep them at arm's length at the "acquaintance" level.
But I am capable of tolerating them, being pleasant with them, and socially interacting with them in a normal or even friend-like fashion so long as those traits remain concealed or unspoken while they are in my presence.
If I know these people act on these beliefs, that's an entirely different matter and one I won't tolerate.
But plenty of people think and say hateful things without ever doing anything about them, and those sorts of folk I can be around and socialize with in small doses without incident.

Presumably if you think that a woman has a right to choose and someone else thinks a woman does not have a right to choose...not sure how a friendship would work in that situation.

_J_ is right on this one. Furthermore, the moderates are part of the same disease and share the blame. In their seemingly benign non-involvement or even condemnation of the radical wing of their ideology, they are still giving cover for fundamentalists and are the base of their recruitment. They are enablers and the entire ship has to be brought down together.
See, in a lot of ways I'm probably sexist in my thought processes, I'm also lazy, ill-mannered and violent.
I don't like most of that about me, but there are some parts of myself I recognize as not being completely okay but have no intention of changing, but I try not to let that effect my actions negatively.
I'm thinking the key here, on tolerating people with weird beliefs, is the degree to which that person would treat you differently, or would want to treat you differently, or if the belief generally covers you and calls for reprehensible action, even if the action is not taken.
"He's a nice guy. We can't hang out Wednesday nights, though, because he has to attend his Klan meeting."
"He's a nice guy. The other night he beat up a gay guy simply because the guy was gay. But, you know, great guy other than that."
"He's a nice guy. He voted for Ron Paul, though."
SRSLY, Pony?!
I'd have a problem with any of those.
But only the middle one would actively cause me to reject a person and completely be intolerant towards them.
The other two? I could tolerate someone like that, so long as they understand why they can't ever speak of such things around me and that I won't tolerate them espousing such ideas in my presence.

I view it that if a person has such a bullshit belief, I don't want to know what else they don't approve of or hate or whatever. You want to hate an entire group of people that's fine, I don't want to be your anything.

I've had to

Of course there was also a dude who lost his last job and his girlfriend when he banged his girlfriend's mom so I mean you take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have the facts of life
and the other part which is all rules and 'do not divorce' and shit.
I like to think that they only added the second part so that the conservative disciples would vote for it.

No just a politeness and an innocent belief that they can save the world.
which is something I would totally want to destroy with sex

Sex could never destroy my politeness.
Yeah....

Glad I posed that as a question, then.

Perhaps I'm too laid back?
Well you know they control our money apparently.
Like rape victims and doctors who perform abortions.
I usually do.

Tolerance of intolerant people is quite odd.

I wish I could rimshot this. It feels like it needs it.

Seeing nerds have a raging argument about whether the GPL or BSD licence is the more "free" is the funniest thing.

Not really. Hate the government of Israel, not jewish people.

Mmmm....
I agree. That said, some people do not make a distinction between the government of Israel and the Jewish people.
