i'm really excited for the intro drawing stuff
and that's very basic too, but i mean... it's drawing
this is... not drawing
this is "hey this is how art school works, see these are colors?" i'm not just being facetious, it's actually what the course is.
oh god... today in class the teacher goes "can anyone tell me what typography is?"
and this girl goes "the study of maps"
it took every ounce of my being not to facepalm.
I saw 500 Days of Summer last night, it was rad. I think I'ma go figure drawrin' again this saturday as well - no weekend plans ftw!
EWA - I've found out about a lot of workshops by going into coffee shops and little hole in the wall restaurants and such just in the doorway. They usually have fliers and whatnot lyin' around. Dunno if it's like that up near you though. Also word of mouth through art friends.
Curse you for making me realize I don't have art friends. Or coffee shops and hole in the wall restaurants.
Godaddy does an ok job of both, but I'd buy your domain separate from your host. It's a small hassle, but can avoid a huge hassle later. I use AIT Domains and I'm pretty happy with them.

Yeah, that's just what I'm doing. It works, but my sites are tiny, low-traffic, personal tomfoolery.
As for the hassle, way back I registered and hosted with one company. Then my site grew and I wanted to switch hosts, but the fuckers wouldn't let me switch nameservers (so I could migrate to the new host) or move my domain registration to a different company. I finally got it done after weeks on the phone, but it was a real bitch. The risk of that happening now is pretty low I think, but it gives me peace of mind.
local art university
it's program is not bad, but... it's very accepting of pretty much anyone who applies to it
so they have to have this precursor program
it gets better in the second and third years, a lot of people get weeded out in foundation after this initial hand holding
which is why i don't mind like, my drawing studio and things like that.
also, i'm taking a visual communications course that is very interesting to me, since i did perceptual processes in neuro which was the physical things that happen when we view something we like, don't like etc
this is about what happens psychologically.
it's neat to see the flip side
bacon...still thinking of spending a summer at watts, can i crash on your couch...for three months? haha

Well, if I had a couch (no), and if I had the money to stay going to Watts until next summer (no), I might consider it (no haha).
Some Canadian lady actually came down here this summer by as far as I can tell putting up a flyer in the school saying, "Hey I'm Canadian anyone want to put me up for awhile I have Canadian money to pay you with", so the theory's sound I guess.
You can always sleep on Loom's floor, covered in a blanket of newsprint drawings.
Join us Beavo. Join uss. Bacon is here, Loomdun is here, I am here...Ikage is visiting in two weeks...
Join usssss.
If you do ever decide to come down finding you a roommate wouldn't be too much trouble. The other Canadian lady was problematic because she had some very specific and odd requirements.
i will try to find a roomie in advance and spend some months there then
learning and doing things of that nature.
of the learning variety.
In the meantime try not to go insane because of your dreadfully inadequate classes and classmates.

i'm taking a photography class!
I was thinking about moving to the Watts-area next summer, actually...but, that's if I can afford it, and it makes sense to do that, when the time comes. That's a huge "if".
If all the girls from the forum come down here needing couches to sleep on right after I have to move away for a job or something, I am going to unleash a simply apocalyptic string of curses.
Also, I just got back from my friend's youth group. I was kind of uncomfortable at first because it is a religious group and they sang some hardcore faith songs and I was the only one not singing. But then, they had a video on the meaning of the Prodigal Son story and that was cool!
Also also, Buddhists make some scary music out of the sutras:
I've been dragged to church a couple of times by a couple of christian friends, the first time the pastor started crying because the the planet is situated perfectly in the orbit of the sun. Apparently, if the earth was one foot further away from the sun we would freeze to death and if we were one foot closer we would burn to death.
The second time there was someone there giving a talk disputing evolution and I walked out in disgust.
One time I was made to attend church regularly for a period of several years.
True story!
And one of those times in one of the school masses I broke some church plates or glasses or dishes or something because I was carrying a stuffed lion as an offering (wtf?) and ran straight into a table with a bunch of junk on it because I wasn't paying attention.

Oooooh. Good call.
Verdict is in: no.

The guys from the Japan asked me some questions! I really hope they decide to give me that visa!!!
Nah.
I don't think you've learned your lesson yet.
I don't think them asking, "Why the hell aren't you Japanese??" is grounds for too much excitement.
