I wanted there to be some recognizable ones, as well as at least a few semi obscure ones as well. I'm gonna hopefully have this finished soon. I don't know if I'll have time for the pinup contest, but I'll try...
Gah, I had to sell my black SDC and Marvel vs Capcom 2 for gas money and food 2 years ago...for shame on my necessities.
Anyhoo, sketchy comic.
I dont' think "sploosh" is the proper sound effect for going through a cow...and I need to look up a picture reference of a cow, lol, thats just sad how I drew it.
also later in the story.
Anyhoo, yesh, it be me, lame-0 pious, it was a stupid name*snaps fingers* hated it.
Cool angles on those comic angles, but that last panel was kinda confusing and it wasn't immediately obvious that they blasted through the cow. I love that mech with a panda face.
Maybe its because you paint in acrylics DR, but when I look at your work I really enjoy the designs and compositions...but they all feel pasty and dull color-wise. Are you using a lot of white to lighten your values? I feel with richer colors and a little more crispness to your paintings they could really shine.
I use white to lighten my values, yes. This painting does feel a bit retardo colour-wise because I spent a lot of time working on it with a totally different colour scheme that just was NOT working (this weekend has been massively frustrating art wise, gah!). So I went over what I'd originally done with a blue wash (the purples on this were originally a bright pink/magenta). I haven't gone back in and applied all the colours I want yet - the greens on the underside of the upper blocks, for instance, is pretty much straight from the tube. Once I get to work that up a little I think it will pop better. I also photograph in shitty lighting with a crappy camera.
But yeah, maybe acrylics are shitty. I dunno. I'll photograph some other stuff that was more complete for a show I was in a few months back, and you can tell me if you feel the same re: colour.
Okay, so yes, these are a few months old but pretty complete.
Man my photography sucks balls.
I'm not sure, maybe it's just how they translate on the screen/how I photograph them under a 75 watt bulb at midnight all the time, but they look pretty vivid to me, colour wise, in the flesh. I do try to avoid white + colour in most instances. I'll try harder cake, I promise.
Hmm, perhaps. Though if it's in front of the knee I think the angle's wrong on the hand and there should be more foreshortening of the arm. Especially with the perspective on the legs and shoulders. Like you said, though, without perspective in the background, it's hard to read. My general thought, though, is that if you're going to do a background, do it first. Then put in the character, so as to keep things consistent, readable, and not looking like the background was made for the character's pose (which may be off)as opposed to the vice versa.
It looks like you had a nice idea, but completely ignored composition.
Thanks for the crit but I'm kind of lost on what you mean by that?
The mustache has a haphazard and confusing look, the girl is cut off at the legs, the lettering just looks slapped on, and the darker blue hatches behind the girl are only distracting and cause a disunity of texture- as does the rendering you tried to do.

Also, the whole ghost-like rendering.
But yeah,
Not finished but it's coming along.

It's that it would be rather uncomfortable to rest your left elbow/forearm on your right knee.
I read it as being in front of the knee. He's probably not sitting.
But with no background or staging it's hard to know.
Here are two sketch pages from my Austin trip.
Also I've just posted my portfolio from that trip in my thread [/shameless plug]
