I like cheese and Blender both. Behold the fruits of my own labors.
So, how's that shoot 'em cowboy game coming along? I was really enjoying the updates on that.
Well, I ended up buying a new monitor so I could develop at the resolution recommended by XNA's best practices. And I realized that scaling things up made the sprites look really bad. About that time the semester started, and since I was taking a 3d modeling class, I've been exploring that. Yesterday I modeled and skinned the hero and his gun, and now I'm converting the engine to 2.5d. Mainly it's just a few changes in the camera class, all the physics and logic are still 2d.
Edit: I used the existing sprites as the orthogonal views, so it retains the exaggerated square jaw, the costume is the same, etc.
Delzhand, what are you using for a render engine? I never could get Lux to work with Blender so I usually used the internal or Yafray. I gave up on some of the other unbiased renderers because they took days to render a scene. I was on a forum where a guy let a scene render for 3 weeks with one of them.
This is pretty cool, as is most of your stuff. Both here and on your website. But what I am noticing as a trend is that you always only use static poses. All of your characters look fairly stiff. Even weight distribution for the legs, straightforward pose, mostly front or three-quarters views. I get that you're coming up with concepts, but even then, you can give them movement. For example, this is very conceptual, but remains interesting, flowing, and natural to the eye.
Perhaps try to expand on your repertoire a bit?
Word. It has been said before and you are correct. That image you linked is fucking sweet.

Lux is so alpha that you shouldn't bother with it for anything near production. The inegrated yafaray is antique, so you should grab the latest version and the latest beta of Blender (you need python 2.6 support). The latest yafaray produces some good quality renders: http://www.yafaray.org/gallery?g2_itemId=39
Yafaray's photon renderer beats the crap out of Lux and many things I've seen produced by commercial renderers.
I don't render in Blender, all of my models and animations are exported in fbx format, and I just load them into XNA. Once there, I'm just using the stock shaders for skinned models.
This photo blows but gives a good idea of this half finished piece.
DR...you really like doing those geometric cities. I hope you're adding some texture or lighting effects to the top and bottom canvases to make those expanses of shapes more dynamic.
Nah, the contrast is sort of the point with this piece.

This is three and a half hours of work.
I don't know if I'm spending too long or not long enough on these. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the book store and draw some real people.
Thanks DeeLock.. There's a tentacle at the back amongst the buildings I haven't monster-fied yet that will help, but yeah, the lighting on the monster doesn't completely match the city yet which probably isn't helping either.
i am in art school hurrah!
here's a drawing i had to make for my drawing class of some of my shoes
it's graphite on mayfair, pic taken with my shitty iphone camera.
i should explain that the task was to draw some found objects around your house and to be able to still see the underpinnings of the drawing
so to still see some of the contours and more rough work
i just left the background all contour lines and rough shit.
Oh hey. I didn't exactly pay a lot of attention to that, I thought it was just a photo. Impressive! Although under scrutiny it does look a little bit... 3D. Needs more.. shiney?

it's not off, they stretch out when you put them on
like all heels
The point still feels a little extreme and unnatural to me.
It's a nitpick I know, the rest of the drawing is totally fabulous, so y'know, mucho ass pats.
EDIT: Than again, maybe it's just the angle and I'm not reading it right?
I love Sketchbook Pro. I frequent a site where all the Industrial Design guys use it. I'm missing a lot by using it on an Intuos 3 instead of a Cintiq, though. Just don't have the cash right now for a Cintiq.
I am seriously going to have a lot of trouble drawing dead bodies strewn around that guy. I don't regret starting a drawing of a serial mass murderer, but I both rue and lament it.

Best I can give you is this page out of Kentaro Miura's Berserk, where he draws a shitton of dead bodies on the ground.

I'd think we would be able to see more tentacles on the back side of him or even some eyeballs sticking out on the far side.
It would be much cheaper for him to dispose of it himself.

other than that, I wouldn't even know how to crit that
This is sweet. I wish I knew how to do 3D. Great stuff!

I am figure drawing from a live model 2-3 times a week now. So that's something.
I have like nine quadrillion paintings in varying stages of half completion. Hopefully I will post something soon.

they take a bit to break in... it results in fierce blisters
but you're right, the fixed heel looks more comfortable hahah
Note: outlining flames should automatically qualify you to be a surgeon.
There has to be an American Graffiti joke in here somewhere.
Sketchbook Pro
also, thanks Radar
also, anybody have some references for people laying on the ground with ground-level perspective?
Though, I really should study more with like, ink and brushwork...
I only have one.
