Serious answer: I'm more inclined to kill than guard this early, but if we had someone come forward with a legitimate request for village-enhancing protection I'd definitely consider guarding them, in a completely Capitalist fashion of course, if it would help us in the long run.

Wildcat because Snowcrash is an awesome book and from what I can tell he's a fairly competent player most of the time.
I'm also going to switch to Tri-Ion Power Packs and Molycirc Actuators because guarding will help the village without letting the captain help his faction too much, which should keep the position relatively neutral as far as the factions go, unlike what I remember of the Star Wars phalla where every faction was paranoid about any of a different faction getting the captain/Vader role.
