The scales feel a bit wacky to me....think I need to move the ship further back.

the ship needs to move a bit to the right(camera right) and the amazonian butt babe needs to be a bit bigger while moving her ever so slightly left

Having the spear holding lady in the middle of the frame might be a bad choice. If you block out everything left of her the picture becomes slightly more interesting.

I think the little row boat is causing the scale problems, make that sucker smaller and you might be good?

Focusing on the landscape portion, others can deal with the drawing issues.
    mustang_cove.jpg

Lots of even light blue throughout the sky and the water. Ok for a calm overcast day on a still lake, not so great on an ocean on a clear day.

Assuming it's a clear sunny day and not overcast- I'm assuming this because of the big yellow blob in the sky on the left and the yellows in the water- you're going to get a gradient in the sky from clear blue straight above your head to a whiter tone the closer you get to the horizon. The water can also stand to be juiced up with deeper colors. Might want to look up some Sorolla paintings of water for inspiration.

Coloration of rock formations are dull- basically just light brown to darker brown variations. Inside a cave is going to be dark, don't be afraid to get dark. If you want the inside of the cave lit up, you'd be better off making it a bluer color or put in some hints of yellow light of the sun reflecting off the water surface (this doesn't make much sense with the current position of the sun but whatever), rather than just leaving at moderately even brown. It's a good opportunity to get more color and tone variation in there, don't just settle for a boring solution.

Threw some oranges and reds in the shadows as well to break up the even color. Changed the shape of the top of the cave to avoid a too artificial feel, both in a compositional and geological sense.

I checked it on my other monitor and still don't see it.

    Maybe LCDs suck at colors?

Maybe your observational skills are just not attuned enough to see them.

Throw the picture into PS and open up the color selection thing. Eyedrop around the lightest parts of the water- you'll see that rather than white or blue, these are just very pale versions of yellow or yellow-green (blue+yellow makes green, remember).

If you still can't see it, you've either got a crap monitor (both my monitors are LCDs), a poorly calibrated monitor, or you're colorblind.

Also high-end CRTs are better than LCDs at color reproduction, but what's going on here is not subtle enough that this should be a factor.

I went around the color wheel, and while I can see yellow, it does pretty much turn to grayish white for me at that level of saturation even though I can see other colors around that saturation without trouble.

Yeah a bit, something still feels odd to me though and I don't have the energy to bring it into PS and feel it out. It might be the length of his feet, which are long...and possibly making his legs feel short. It depends on what this dude is supposed to be. I never know what you are caricaturing and what you aren't.

I lengthened the feet to add a little weight to the very bottom. Think of him like a scout- sneaking around, light skirmishes maybe.

Do you know an online game called "second life" ? if you dont, DO NOT research into it. plus some months without internet. Its good to see most of the old forumers are still hanging around.

I like it, the face has a lot of character. The details on the ear and neck seem a little out of place 'cause of the change in line weight/transparency.

Yeah, I see what you mean, the nitpicky details seem pretty odd against the thick semi-transparent lines. I was just doodling what I was wearing that day (: maybe if I clean it up I'll try to smooth that out

Also, DR I loove your little structures and buildings in your paintings, trying to draw that many parallel and straight lines would drive me nuts. And that creature looks positively revolting.
