That's not terrible. My brain used to parse it as ManovonVonSuperocken until I actually looked at it.

is this shit really still going on?
Nice stuff don't get me wrong, but
is this shit still going on?
I felt compelled to submit an entry just before this contest ends. I'm not particularly happy with some proportions and the whole face area, but it's time to stop procrastinating on actual work. Hopefully this isn't too NSFW for this contest thread. Also, hopefully I haven't demonstrated massive incompetence by not having a picture below...
Crits are welcome. I'm not a professional and I have minimal training, so input would be useful. Lurking on this forum for a while has actually been pretty helpful, but one can only go so far reading crits of other peoples work and tutorials.
At the risk of making a poor first impression, I've got to admit that that girl's face absolutely scares the crap out of me. Football eyes with huge irises, weird lips, odd cheeklines and scary even-spaced lashes makes for a sort of Jabba-the-Hutt-in-drag effect. Combined with the placement of 'detail' lines on the lower legs and the way the toes and fingers are handle makes me feel you'd got a lot of life drawing ahead of you, as it appears you are still very much drawing symbols rather than drawing on firsthand knowledge of anatomical forms.
But to try not to be wholly negative, a drawover! (Though I think it's just as much out of a feeling of "I've got to do something, or that scary face will haunt me" as it is out of altruism, if I am totally honest.)
In addition to doing drawing from life/photographs, you may also want to try comparing what you see in life to how good artists actually end up drawing their figures to get a "sexy" effect. Gil Elvgren, Frank Cho, and Adam Hughes, for example, all strip down and simplify their figures in design, a lot more than you would see examining a real person closely- they know where to put in a simple curve, rather than putting in that little extra detail that ends up making the sexy grotesque.
Hot damn Bacon, you actually drew a sexy woman for a change.
I'm so proud *sniff*

The original looks like one of those freaky carny paintings you see on sideshows, except with more tits.
It's got a creepy unsettling charm of it's own. But yes, unless you're planning on being a carny and living off second hand deep fried hotdogs you should listen to bacon.

I highly recommend you heed His words, gopher. That's a solid critique and will help you leaps and bounds.

Good to know the last week of doing nothing but women studies and copies of Elvgren/Cho drawings is paying off.
Though I suspect anyone casually flipping through my sketchbook now would conclude I'm some kind of pervert.
