I drew this prozzie for a school assignment, but she's too tall for the level she is within the forground. Whoops. Also, my window lines were straight until I was all, "This would be way cool in chalk pastel." Hah, no.

That's cool. Pointer finger on the log is a little long, and if that foot's not on the ground it looks odd. If it is it's ok. Whatever's light in the background, on an abstract level, I think it should curve upwards to the left for composition. Keep the eye flowing through the piece.

Very nice, liking the gesture of that hand. The only thing I might say is that the foot we can see kind of seems to be breaking the motion. I feel like it should be pointing down. Though, I can't tell if she's supposed to be actually resting it on something, or if she's sitting on a branch.

I'm guessing the anatomic exaggerations are because she's some sort of beastwoman, Scos? If not, the limbs are really long, and the head is small.

In either case, her arms are very different lengths- the one in the front is much longer, even accounting for perspective, I think.

    Double crit tag team!

The idea was a sitting on a fallen log so she's resting it on the ground. I could see her being up on a tall branch though, which could be cool as well.

The hand is rough but it's meant to be a bit claw-like. It should look better once I clean it up.

edit: Yes, the anatomical exaggerations are intentional. I started this for the "good/evil" fantasy character CHOW a while back and never got around to working on it. It's supposed to be an evil druid in the vein of a Baldur's Gate style character portrait.

photobucket is great if you're going to be posting them on forums and soforth

not much of a gallery function or anything, but if you just want an account you can upload them to quickly i've found it more than adequate!

(p.s. questions/tutorials thread is usually best for this sort of stuff)

I wouldn't worry so much about developing a style. You need a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts, and style will come to you naturally based on other artwork and artists you might find you enjoy along the way, perhaps slowly gaining small elements of their styles as you improve. It's not just something that you "find" one day. It's an ever expanding process.

Also, as a critique to the image, all of your colors are very desaturated. This is ok for the bathing suit, but makes the skin look plastic and the hair white. Get some brighter oranges and reds in the skin, and more vibrant yellows or yellow oranges for blond hair.

Agree with Radar, try building up your knowledge of colour. I'm finding it one of the trickiest subjects to get a handle on, it's incredibly obtuse and imprecise, but I am starting to be able to identify where things are falling down and where they are working.

Well, I had a post here but I lost it to a blip in my network connection I guess.

It's unclear why he's pointing and why his sword is out.

I can imagine that perhaps he's motioning to direct the movement of fellow attackers, but I don't really see any of them.

I think you need to just play with the idea a bit more.

I dunno. There's something about the way he abbreviated it. It's almost poetic in a way. I think it's interesting as hell.

e: It might look haphazard, but I would argue that that makes for a fairly powerful metaphor when you combine it with the imagery of a ronin samurai.
