Thinkgeek servers down 1 minute after CTS Cel

*sigh*

I was so psyched about getting one, and RIGHT when they start offering the CTS limited edition cel, their MYSQL server goes poop.

Maybe this is punishment for my buying two last time. First I almost get to the credit card page, now my shopping cart is prepetually empty. I see this as an endurance match, whoever can sit in front of their computer the longest wins.

That is because MySQL hates Penny Arcade.

We have a place in which to place the sacred artifact in all its glory. We are staring at the holy plastic by which our artifact is supposed to manifest into our presence. WE wish to use the Holy plastic.

    We are stymied.

    And upset.

    Mostly stymied.

    This sucks so much.

I think its too much to hope that less than 500 other people are waiting on ThinkGeek right now.

Hence I guess we probably not going to have much luck.

I'm a righteous dickhead and tried to order one for my gf too, but only one jumped in my cart. I figured as much anyway, but it was worth a try.

Of course, mere seconds after I press "Checkout", I get a MySQL error. And after that, ThinkGeek stops responding altogether.

Nothin' to do but keep hitting refresh.

Yes, I know this exacerbates the problem, but I want one, dammit!

    GL to you all...

Oh there's no doubt that we did it. I hopped on right at 9pm and everything was fine; I left for a few minutes to see what the previous T&C cel had sold for, and when I came back at 11:05, it was dieing in front of my eyes.

I'm in the same boat. It *was* there, but then I tried refreshing the cart to check it wasn't just my browser causing problems. Now the top says I have cart items but the main window says it's empty.

And I got up at 5am to get one of these things!

Frankly, hitting refresh is a really bad idea(it doesn't make the DB load problem go away), but what else can you do considering it's a limited edition item?

Other things you would buy on Think Geek if you could, people?

I was gunna get a STFUniversity shirt, or the Viva La Relativity one. I thought those were both clever. The Ring Thing is also a neat doodad for all the alcoholics out there.

If it came back before then I'd keep refreshing. At least that's what I'm doing... The site's now loading fine but the MySQL database is still having none of it.

Personally I think they need to open more sockets to Division.

What's frustrating is that the item showed up prior to 9:00pm. I'm not sure how much prior, but at 8:57pm it was there. I'm now forced to wonder if I could've gotten my hands on it when the server was still... serving.

And I'm sure I'm going to get made fun of for this (even though I do this stuff for a living), but christ, MySQL? I mean, really... it's a TOY. They need to try SQL Server or Oracle. SQL Server isn't really that expensive. Good grief...

That's all very well for people in more agreeable timezones such as yourself but I was very, very gutted when I missed the Twisp and Catsby one thanks to it going up at 5am. Without warning.

By the time I got into work at 9:00 it was long gone.

MySQL is pretty mature, as of 4.0. If you don't desperately need a few key items (*cough*relational dependancy*cough*), it works really well. If you want to stay in the realms of free, your only "upgrade" is PostgreSQL, and it's remarkably slower.

Last I checked, Oracle and SQLServer are prohibitively expensive (or at least would be responsible for taking giant, slobbering bites out of the profit line), and I have this deep, burning resentment of Oracle in ALL its incarnations.

Oh, and FWIW, I just got something that wasn't a DB error, but everything is still as slow as molasses.
