I would like to get some Video capturing hardware to record video from sources like game console and TV.
I would like to then take this video feed into my computer, and together with some rendered Maya animations create a final compositional video piece. I have software for Audio (Lifetime license to FL Studio), and the Maya software already.
I'm currently running a 2.2 Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of Ram, considering spending some money on an external HDD since it only has a 200 gb HDD.
Any suggestions/recommendations? I am really curious on the price range I'm looking at for this stuff as I don't know what I should be looking for in the hardware. And the software I'd imagine would range anywhere from $200 to $texas. This is more for hobby use than anything right now, not professional level.

it costs like 350 but if you're a student you could probably get a discount
It costs 350 if you're a student it looks like.
Has anyone tried FXHome? it looks like a decent and cheap alternative.
