Oh noes, my account haes b3en stoled. Some days ago, I read my email in the morning and saw my WoW password had been changed at 3 AM, and my account was frozen for illegal activity at about 4:30 AM. I appealed it and I think I was finally reimbursed today, but I'm scared to log in, in case I have some trojan keylogger or something.

I consider myself a relatively smart and informed gamer, so I have no idea how chinafarmers got my password. I've never been tricked into "signing in" to a phishing site, I'm surely not stupid enough to tell anyone in-game what my password is... I've never shared it with anyone, IRL or in-game. I have an up to date antivirus and run spyware checks occasionally. I don't visit shady websites, etc.

Anyway, anyone else have their account broken into, and have any idea how the bad guys got their password? Addons have no way of doing that, right? Their scripts aren't even read until you're in the game, right? I did download Magelo at one point, and it made me very nervous to have something running in the background while I was logging in to the game... but I scoured the internet about it and virus scanned the thing and it seems like a legit program no one has complained about... no suspicions of keylogging...

I wonder what % of gold sold by gold "farmers" is farmed gold, and what % is stolen...

By chance do you have a merged battle.net account, and is the email address you use to log in known anywhere else?
The gold farmers aren't above brute forcing a password if they have a login.

Actually, it seems the majority of account hacks have been bruteforce and using emails. Especially if you have a blog, or are in a guild that shows your email address in it's forum. Or even if your email address is shown on this forum...

    ...

    ...

I'm off to change that setting now.

okay, does Int affect weapon skill gains or not

The internet, the wow forums, and even the wow info pages are completely contradictory

Some say that's been gone since pre-TBC, others say just the tooltip was removed but the effect remains

The int skill bonus was officially removed pre-BC according to patch notes, but there's pretty much incontrovertible test evidence that it's still in. It's not working as intended, since patch notes said it was out, but blizzard obviously doesn't care, because it hasn't been fixed in two expansions.

I can 100% confirm that int still affects weapon skillups. My ret pally happens to have a lot of decent holy gear so after 32 minutes of trying to get my 2H axe skill from 335 to 400, I suddenly remembered that int used to be a factor.

So after switching to my holy gear and gaining something like 800 int, it took me 12 min and 55 seconds to go from 0 1H mace skill to 400 and ~18 minutes to go from 0 polearm to 400. On average it was around 3 minutes to get from 399 to 400. Needless to say, I got all my skills on both my priest and paladin at 400... because of my OCD... it flares up real bad sometimes.

Purely coincidental. INT does nothing for skill-ups

    Toothpicks were a stupid idea.

It's a short buff that is barely noticeable, and it's not like the item is required for any taxing achievement. It's a common item found in treat bags that isn't useful nor fun.

What I am saying is that getting the toothpick is how every druid feels during Hallow's End. So glad they still haven't bothered to unfuck that change.

Addons don't have access to anything of that sort. But if you're running an outside executable, open source or not, that hasn't been investigated by multiple experts, you're going to run the risk that the executable is malware. I don't know how popular Magelo actually is, but I wouldn't use its executable unless it was either open source or very popular (meaning it's probably been disassembled and investigated by at least a couple of healthily paranoid people).

Personally I use Wowhead's executable (which is not only closed source but also doesn't even publish a changelog), but I wouldn't if Wowhead was anything less than the most popular WoW database site.

You also might want to change your password regularly if you suspect that they got it via brute force. Maybe read up on how to create a great password. Or at least, when you change it, change it to something that comes before your current one in lexicographical order.

The requires holiday thing is new, first I noticed it was Brewfest, and there was a blue post about the change back during brewfest. I also noticed my coins from the elders disappeared from my bank at some point in the last few months, so I guess those have it now, too.

I'm sure some of it's just because I suck, but I really, really hate the two VoA fights I did tonight. Koralon is annoying because I had the hardest damn time actually seeing the fire that I was having to avoid. Archavon is annoying because he moves around so damn much.

Also annoying--people who come for one boss and abandon the raid. Fun times, that.

Yeah, I actually considered not Consecrating to try and see the fire better, but obviously losing some DPS on that fight is A Bad Thing (TM) because of the soft enrage.

DBM solves that by posting a giant message with GET OUT OF FIRE STUPID! blue text in the center of your screen. I've only had one death on my mage, though I think it was from the aoe and then fire...or fire then aoe.
Could be that I was one of those dpsers...what with being too busy staring at recount and trying to win in omen.
Though that brings up another irratation. In pug 25man ony, we fail a few times, I get blamed for being terribad and having the lowest gearscore. I pull up recount and show that I had done more Damage done overall and dps than 5 or 6 other dps dudes. Its not great, but I was still pulling my weight. Has gearscore suddenly replaced recount on epeen measurmeant?
I'm still trying to adjust to dps mode of 'zomg big numbers' from 'did the raid survive? Boss dead?'.

The last achieve I had to do was G.N.E.R.D. Rage. Got it last night in a BG. It was a great feeling to murder someone, knowing they got to see the Achievement Spam for both the rage and the title achievement.

I imagine that feels a lot like someone murdering you, and then taking a second to thank you for being such a wonderful victim.

Seems like it, which is utterly retarded. I've got a friend who's trying to gear up his freshly 80 DK in heroics. I'm healing him on my paladin and so far we've had no troubles. He's defense capped and has about 30k health fully buffed, which is more than comfortable for heroics.

The problem is we can't even get people to stick around to run a normal Trial of the Champion when they see his gearscore, and so we have to mill through about three or four DPS before we find one that's not a prick. Ugh. This is definitely a Hate.
