My assumption was that Shanks wasn't that strong yet at the time. Plus, he was focused on saving Luffy first, saving himself second (awwwww)

Nope. It's pretty clear that Shanks was even more of a legend before he lost his arm. i.e., Mihawk doesn't want to fight him now that he has one arm, implying that Mihawk would have fought him before that.

And it really shouldn't be that hard for a pirate of Shanks's caliber to rescue Luffy without putting himself in danger.

You're assuming guys like Mihawk were at their current level during that time period. I've always figured Shanks at that time was at Luffy's current level when he entered the Grandline. He could kill a Seaking but not save Luffy. So he sacrificed his arm for something he felt was more important.

White Beard says that everyone was surprised when Shanks came back without an armed, and had no idea what sort of enemy could have given him that wound. Even if Shanks wasn't at his current level back then, he should have been strong enough to handle a run of the mill sea king.

    Yay, new One Piece thread.

And that AMV is the ONLY AMV one would ever need to watch, because all AMV's suck as a rule. Sail On is the one exception.

    Ahem

    http://www.veoh.com/search/videos/q/zero+hero+one+piece#watch%3Dv1107657Jy6DmeRX

    Sogeking begs to differ

Well, yeah, and I'm on a Boat is pretty good too. But sail on is the best, and only the best belongs with the pirate rap.

I had never seen the Sogeking one before, and I agree, it is pretty good.

Xeno's OP reminded of something I saw on the new dub. I was watching the dub when Roger does his speech, but instead of saying, "I left everything in one piece" he says, "I left everthing in one place"

Anyone else hear it or am I just crazy?

It's possible. Might just be the New VA's accent or something.

Yeah, I think he does say one place. I think it's because he never does say "One Piece" in the original Japanese version.

Look at chapter one of One Piece if you want the truth of it.

He originally says search the world and that place, hinting at Raftel.

However who wouldn't do the obvious thing in localization and throw out the title considering how well it fits.

Honestly, my favorite part of that page:
Whitebeard's face. It's the closest we've seen to him going "oh shit."

Mind you, it's more a "this might be cause for concern," but still.

It's a drag, because the meta part of me thinks the WG is gonna win this one, but I'm rooting for Whitebeard.

SentoMARU... that's a male suffix. Although that is a very androgynous haircut. He sounds like a girl in the anime because the VA is female, the same as Luffy's.

Edit: Nah, I'm wrong. I can't remember where I heard that.

's design seems to be heavily influenced by either:

    1) Ne Zha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nezha_%28deity%29), a chinese deity often portrayed as a boy (with that diamond cloth underwear) in the epic saga Journey to the West
    U54P55T4D58000F50DT20050616174008_600small.jpg

    2) Kintaro, the golden boy of Japanese folklore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kintar%C5%8D) who also wielded an axe/hatchet, beating bears with sumo wrestling (hence his association with Kuma)

    3) Momotaro, also of Japanese folklore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momotaro)

    no

    just foresight

which is so uncommon in luffy it had might as well count as a superpower anyway

Well, it's been established in the Boa Sisters fight that Haki mastery may give the user the ability to "read" moves and outcomes.

Whether or not that this is supposed to imply that, is way too early to tell. Count it as Luffy continuing to progress, for now.

We have been speculating when Haki will finally show up for so many chapters now. Oda drawing it out is a goddamn genius move, it builds so much tension in the reader.
