This thread is really cool, and has gotten interested in watching a lot of anime that I normally wouldn't. Since the majority of the anime I've previously watched has been all action oriented (Bebop, Champloo, Trigun... etc), I'm looking through the recomendations thread to try a bunch of new stuff. So right now I'm watching School Days, Bleach, and One Piece, but I wanna watch some of the stuff you guys are talking about right now so I don't feel left out. Going to watch Baccano soon, maybe try Saki and some other stuff.

So in short, thanks anime thread!

You are making the wrong choices, friend. Or maybe you're not adept enough at picking who not to listen to.

Look, go watch Darker than Black, Baccano, and Ouran High School Host Club. Those 3 will do you well.

Will do. I'm only halfway through the first episode so its not like I wasted much time on it.

I finished the first episode. The first half was alright, some weird and kinda awkward fanservice, and an almost-rape scene made it weird but I could still watch it. Then the fanservice dial gets turned to 11 while every girl in school falls over the insensitive, unlikeable prick of a protaganist. Also I got some weird lesbian overtones that I wasn't quite expecting. And now I'll stop talking about it forever.

The School Days recommendation is in there kind of as a joke. I mean, Pika meant it as a real recommendation, but it's really on the list as an in-joke. Probably should have left it out since School Days always causes all kinds of complaining.

Recent stuff I'd suggest if you're looking to branch out from the old classics:

    Eden of the East
    Spice and Wolf
    Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Taishou Yakyuu Musume - I'd recommend this over Saki as a "girls form a club" type show
    Bakemonogatari

Yeah I could tell after the first episode. At least now I get the joke, although I could have gone with a less painful initiation. Thanks for the recommendations, will definitely keep watching.

Mikuru's cute but her incompetence in everything ever makes me hate her instead of like her.

    As for Blacksmith 3...
I try to cut people like Cecily slack in that situation - killing someone that looks human ain't easy the first time. I'll forgive the minor annoyance since we got to see some minor characters who I completely expected to die helplessly (such as the knight captain) kicking serious ass and not taking shit.

Plus, with the ultimate weapon being a rapier, maybe everyone (both in the show and out of it) can stop talking about KATANAHs all the damn time.

I don't mind Mikuru as a character. It's her godawful voice. No one talks like that in real life. Rie Kugimiya for instance at least tries to talk in a natural tone, Mikuru's voice acting is so fake it's actually painful.

There are two schools of thought on FMA:

The first series deviated wildly from the manga, because the manga was nowhere near done at the time (it's only now wrapping up, years later). Manga fans tend to hate the original anime for this reason. Other people think it's fine as it is.

A remake is currently airing, which redid the entire series, following the manga this time.

I never even bothered with the movie, despite liking the original anime series.
