    I had this typed up on hyperbole. I think its important for everyone not just the rape thread people.

    Hyperbole is problematic in that if the audience is not already informed as to what is expected from a statement before a hyperbolic statement is made they will take the hyperbolic statement at face value.

    From the borderlands forums:
    We don't need no water: The fire actually stays on the floor for a few seconds and it can still activate the flame effect and it also spreads to other enemies like Corrosive.

    I don't think you can say that unless the audience is completely ignorant of whatever subject you're being hyperbolic about and thus have no choice but to either wholesale reject or completely accept your statement. And even then, some will question the information simply out of habit or general thoroughness.
