Half Baked was heavily modified from Chapelle's original script. Chapelle says he feels like the finished movie was a "weed movie for kids."
But still.
Abba Zabba, you my only friend.
"I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna take your little mexican friend here, and I'm gonna kill him.'
"Yo, I'm Cuban, B!"
"Ah yes!, Cuban B!"
Makes me laugh every god damn time.
The movie is great for what it is, though. If you're expecting an Oscar winning movie, well you're in for a big surprise. If you were expecting a movie about weed that is ridiculously dumb on so many points while still keeping the viewer entertained with it's jokes, well you're going to enjoy it.
speech done and semi practiced. enough that if I end up going today I won't be pathetic, just not-great.
now history gets studied.

Alternately phrased: just because marijuana has been shown to be impairing in normal individuals does not necessarily mean it is impairing in individuals who have an endogenous chemical imbalance compensated for by cannabinoids.
Corollary: some "recreational" smokers may be self-medicating such an imbalance.
Sure.
I don't trust people to self-diagnose that, though. "Oh, it's totally cool, don't worry--I figure I have this thing I read about online that makes it totally cool for me to smoke and drive."
In general, I agree.
What I oppose, and what my questions where meant to explore, is the moral framework that starts at the assumption that there is a particular neurochemical state that is "normal" and that any deviation from "normal" implies impairment. While this is the truth for the majority of individuals in the majority of situations, there are enough individuals for whom the default state is "impaired" and the altered state is closer to "normal."
Does the typical recreational drug user have the self-awareness and intellectual honesty to make that kind of assessment for himself? No, typically not. I think we agree on that point.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

Man. You just gotta realize it makes you an asshole to judge someone for killing an endangered animal.

The only funny bit in that whole movie was when they buried the dog. (I think it was a dog).
It wasn't a great movie, but it did have some silly moments. I mostly looked at it as a novelty like the rest of the drug comedy genre.
I wouldn't pay to see it, though, and I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
The best part is that Saget says people yell that at him and he yells back "I seen him!"
Not that it affects my driving at all.
