Not to be nitpicky with the OP, but Bob McDonnell's thesis wasn't for his JD, it was for his masters (I think he was getting a dual degree or something).
NoVA the economy is the number one issue, well that and the pissing contest over who pays for Metro.
Really, transportation in general more so than the economy as a whole.
I think education is kind of up there, but yeah, transportation is really the biggest issue. And even though I volunteered for Deeds some, I am so pissed at the way he ran the campaign as well.
The Deeds campaign has been so fucked up. Exhibit one is that in a recent poll McDonnell was actually shown to be more trusted on women's issues than Deeds. I mean, how do you fuck your message up that bad?
He's come across as someone as no plan who's only strategy is a negative smear campaign. I'm pretty sure every single Deeds ad I've seen over the last 3 months has been an attack ad. In contrast, McDonnell's campaign has been mostly positive and issues based.

Well so much for having to put any thought into my NY-23 vote.
It's a damn shame as well because the R's just guranteed the C's a "win" in the dialogue. If Hoffman wins it's clear the nation prefers a more Conservative politian, if he loses it was Scozzava's fault for waiting so long to "do the right thing". Absolutely no way will it get spun as "People do not like your crazy, stop being crazy."

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.
that said, as soon as i saw that christie supported vouchers and wanted to lower taxes he became the worse of the two
He also wants to kill the pension system for any future state employees with the exception of firefighters/police/teachers and wants to take the sledgehammer to the abbot district schools. Both of these situations are in need of some reform, but I highly doubt its the type of reform that unions and minorities are going to receive from a Republican.
Also a lot of guys at work have bought into Christie pullback from union bashing since he made an exception for police and firefighters. Such naivete from grown men is distressing to say the least.

Man, I was expecting just a short clip, or a self-made parody, not the entire ad to be ripped.
It's got 80's video editing text over it!
Why the hell are the R's so consistently stupid about copyright? I suppose it makes a little more sense why they keep voting for it since they have no clue what the hell they're voting for apparently.
NY-23 poll from Sunday, so after the drop out news, and that information is included, but probably mostly before news broke that Scozzafava has endorsed Owens.
2009 House: Special Election
Hoffman 41%, Owens 36%, Scozzafava 6%
Crosstabs have Owens winning Independents, Dems, Moderates and Liberals but Hoffman is winning GOPers and Conservatives. In fact 24% of liberals are undecided in this poll which is odd (more Moderates support Owens than Liberals).
They also have McDonnell up 14, which is consistent with other polling and Christie up 6 which is not. Nate Silver says their weighting is a bit odd this year (oversampling conservatives) in Maine, and the fact that in their NY-23 poll has the following results
Q19 Who did you vote for President last year? If
John McCain, press 1. If Barack Obama, press
2. If someone else or you don’t remember,
press 3.
McCain............................................................ 51%
Obama............................................................ 43%
Someone Else/Don't Remember..................... 6%
Q20 Would you describe yourself as a liberal,
moderate, or conservative? If liberal, press 1. If
moderate, press 2. If conservative, press 3.
Liberal ............................................................. 15%
Moderate......................................................... 39%
Conservative................................................... 45%
when Obama won the district 52-47 and 51-43 would be a bigger margin than any of the last 3 Presidential elections and currently has Obama's approval for 18-29 year olds at 30%. So I'm not sure if I buy that one.

so, sounds like Corzine is gonna win eh, since it seems that the pub is gonna split the vote with the independant candidate and the conservative one?
Really depends on get out the vote operation for either side it seems. Corzine and Christie both went heavily negative (Corzine has spent a ton of money on ads) which usually drives down turnout, but he still faces the problem that there are just a lot of people that want to vote against him. Honestly most people don't have a legitimate (provable) gripe against him, but he's never been popular in this state since during his Senate campaign even. He's just somehow managed to win elections.

"Hi, this is Dede Scozzafava calling on behalf of Bill Owens. And I wanted to let you know that I am supporting Bill for Congress."
“Since beginning my campaign I have said that this election is not about me, it’s about the people of this district. It’s not in the cards for me to be your representative but I strongly believe Bill Owens is the only candidate who can build upon John McHugh’s lasting legacy in Congress.
“In Bill Owens I see a sense of duty and integrity. He will be an independent voice, devoted to doing what is right for New York. To address the tough challenges ahead we must rise above partisanship and politics, and work together.
“Please join me in voting for Bill Owens on Tuesday.”
I'm working tomorrow and Tuesday to GOTV for Corzine

so i just voted here in columbus, ohio. not really any big fights with candidates but there were some contentious constitutional issues being proposed.
The big 2 were an amendment to authorize the building of casinos (ohio has historically voted these down strongly over the last 20 years) and an amendment to create a livestock board that would regulate the treatment of farm animals (it's being pegged as megafarm co. vs. bob & sue small farmer)

I'm ashamed to say I forgot to research city councilors before stepping into the booth this morning. In my defense, none of them ever came to my door or left behind literature for me, so the race was very far from my mind. In any case, I left that field blank.

So, I'm probably going to be politically inactive for the first time since I've been able to vote. I moved recently and forgot to update my registration... I have to travel about 20 miles to vote, and will have about an hour and a half window to do that after work. I'm in VA... McDonnell is going to win... pretty much the whole Republican ticket is a shoe-in (VA rarely splits that vote). I wouldn't have voted for Deeds anyway... maybe if he had proposed anything at all (instead of playing the bullshit John Kerry "I have a plan but I'm not telling!" card), or hadn't run such a shite campaign, it would convince me to vote against the few misgivings I have for McDonnell... but it's a shit taco vs. a turd sandwich right now.
So meh. Take that. Should I promise not to complain about VA's governor until the next election?
Shit. Is there a vote here in Florida? The last primary was my first voting experience. I'm signed up for automatic absentee votes but my family didn't get anything. [/please don't hurt me]

I don't know about question 1. First they start teaching it in schools, next thing you know they're giving out 'free samples'. How many licks of this 'lollipop' does it take to get to the center of hell? Just one Timmy.
I dare you not to suck a free dick. Even our senators have to pay top dollar for that. That's more jobs lost!

I kinda hope the Casino one gets passed.
I think it's probably (and unfortunately) the most well-written casino amendment we're gonna get. It seems like most of the people over 40 in the state are pretty morally opposed to it though. I kept getting dirty looks at work when discussing the issue in any kind of terms that weren't "casinos are baaaaaad, mmmmmkay?"
I had way more fun than I probably should have telling off the guy who was trying to suppress my vote.
What was he trying to do?
He had list of students. If you were on the list, he would challenge your vote, and then you'd have to sign a bunch of papers and stuff affirming that you are registered to vote and it would slow the entire (very Democratic) voting district to a crawl (there's only one machine). I gave the pollworker my name, and then this hack says "What was that?" and then I asked him if he was a pollworker and after he responded "I wasn't talking to you", I (as politely as I could) told him off. Fortunately, their list was incomplete, so he didn't actually end up challenging my vote.
As an NJ resident I am happy that Corzine won a second term. I look forward to higher sales taxes, my property taxes going even higher than they are (I pay more for a condo than other people do for a house), my rebate checks getting smaller and smaller and eventually going away, essentially raising taxes higher, and the state of the state to continue to dwindle and drive even more people across the borders.
Meh. I suppose I just like pain or I'd move to PA. At least I am trying to find a job in another state, no bites yet but I'll be out of this dump one day.

Believe me I've tried fighting it in Michigan forever. I helped the current state Speaker of the House get elected and have regretted it from around his second month in office. Think I'm better off just finding a new state.
Dammit, I forgot to sign my mail in ballot when I left it at home. Exactly how horrible is it to have my wife forge my signature so I can get it postmarked today to be counted?

It's technically a violation of law but as long as she gets it close and you say "yeah that's me" if they question it, you're good.

NJ-GOV is a dead heat in the polls. NJ Dems tend to outperform the polls though, so I say its lean Dem.
McDonnell is walking away from poor campaigner Deeds in VA
Polls are probably useless in NY-23 right now but Hoffman is clearly favored. Also crazy.
CA-10 should be a D walk.
The No vote (retain gay marriage) in Maine is narrowly favored. There's already a thread for that.

But yeah, if you're a die-hard conservative, McDonnell is most definitely your man.
Three times since 1978.
McDonnell's non-die-hard views are ones I tend to agree with. His social-conservative views are pretty opposed to my own.
Deeds never really stated his views, or a plan, or anything. I'd rather vote for the devil I know...
