I can put the members with the required skill into my party but doing so brings up the world map for me to choose a destination. I try to access skills but any deviation from the map brings me back to being the only character active.

Well that sucks. I guess your only recourse is to go to a town, put the required party members in, craft, and then go back out to camp.

I play on the 360 because my PC is a crashtastic mess that I share with a fairly large family. No complaints so far, but I really don't know what I'm missing. Nor do I really care, it's still extremely fun, and I get to relax in my recliner chair and play on a 46 inch bravia.

I do somewhat regret not getting the PS3 version though for the better textures.

I've now played through all of the origins...I think city elf is the one I'm gonna settle on. Usually I hate elves, but I like the idea of playing someone with a "kill all humans" side of their personality.

After maybe 15 hours of total gameplay, I'm ready to start the preliminary planning stage of eventually making it past Ostagar!

I gotta ask: where do you buy flasks? No one seems to sell them.

Yes, the game is good. Yes, the camera is fine.

Now, compared to what you can do on the PC version, the console camera leaves something to be desired.

But in truth, the camera is really not bad. The ability to zoom out a bit would be nice, but it's not game-breaking. Fights on the consoles aren't as massive as they are on PC, so the fact that you can't see as much of the battlefield isn't as big a deal.

Things can and do get a bit confused when you've got a roiling melee going - but then again, it's a fucking roiling melee.

Yes. Starting to get very frustrated. The members who can craft are standing right in front of me yet I can't seem to access their skills in any shape or form. I can't even look up recipes to see what ingredients I could buy from the merchant in camp.

So I have to leave camp, look up recipes, go back to camp, buy ingredients, leave camp and craft them.

Either that or I am missing something.

Playing this on Hard for the first time essentially means you live in tactical view in combat.

I do enjoy the 3rd person view outside of combat however.

And the graphics are great (on the PC....set to High....with the 3d goggles on)

Man, I find this game to be brutal on normal. I find myself reloading on average 2 or 3 times per fight. Easily the hardest RPG I've played in awhile.

    Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

There are a few things you can do to make combat easier (pulling melee out of range of archers and creating bottlenecks are biggies). I haven't had too many problems once I figured that out, although I sometimes pop potions like crazy.

Redcliff village is currently giving me a problem, though:
Like many others, the first fight - the knights - is easy, but they won't stop coming down below!

Also, poor bartender (Lloyd?). I browbeat him into defending his village but I don't see any way to keep him from being slaughtered. Or most of the rest of the militia, for that matter.

I think the next try I am going to forget the villagers, stay on the hill and wait for them to come up to me.

Yeah that fight is a lost cause. I ended up just running back up top and letting the knights take care of them. It took several runs to lure them all up there, but in the end it worked.
Besides if Lloyd dies Bella takes over the bar. Which is good for you. Trust me.

No huge gripes on the camera for the 360 version, though it can get a little chaotic on screen since you can't pull really far away. Also, I have difficulty seeing who all the rangy baddies are at the beginning of a fight. But it's definitely workable and you get used to it.

Quick question, if a party member is knocked out in a fight, will he still get exp?

Also is there any good way to make money besides selling loot and doing quests? Will buying ingredients to make potions then selling the potions net me a profit? I see so many goodies I want to buy but I just don't have any money. And I don't even buy potions or weapon/armor. I really really want to buy those books that gives extra skill points/talent points and the extra back packs.

I think at least the lowest-end potions can turn a profit if you find - or maybe even buy - the ingredients and then make them into potions.

However making traps will destroy your wallet. Making traps by buying the ingredients - 'cause you're sure as hell not going to find many out in the wild - is way more expensive than simply buying the completed trap itself. It's ludicrous and is an oversight I'd like to see fixed one way or the other really quickly.

Not surprising, when they introduced the craft trap skill in neverwinter nights (sotu expansion?) it was basically a free money skill, as traps sold for many times the cost of ingredients. The server I played on had to change the resell value to zero because SOME TERRIBLE PERSON was spamming the skill so much it lagged the server

Likely an effort to prevent that from happening, as it makes money meaningless in game.

Well the thing is that unless the camp merchant has an unending stock of crafting materials, it's actually kind of difficult to find enough stuff to make traps even for your own use. Every town merchant I come across always has a (very) limited stock.

Also where the hell is this update people keep talking about? Nowhere on Bioware's site do I see any information on it and there is, bafflingly, no auto-updater in the launcher.

    1. Framerate is pretty solid. I sometimes see a tiny bit of slow-down during cinematics, but it's nothing serious and it always clears up after a second or two. Also, none of Mass Effect's goddamn texture pop.

    2. I haven't encountered any bugs yet, but I haven't played that much. I read somewhere that daggers might not be working correctly for high-level rogues? But that's for all versions.

    3. So far, the game seems pretty balanced, but also kind of hard. If you are careless you'll die. Or end up with sucking chest wounds and a cracked skull. I'm not a big mechanics geek, but the game seems to work in a consistent and predictable fashion. So, Yes, me likey.

    4. Uh, I guess this is like a 7 or 8 on your scale? Special moves look good, spell effects are neat, there's blood everywhere, and every once in a while you gut some filthy Darkspawn like a fish, which feels pretty great. The game also kinda cheats occassionally by using a cinematic to show you killing something important, which makes me pop a boner.

    5. Kinda, but it's cool. Honestly, if you have a PC that can run this, you probably should go with that version. If not, the 360 version is fine and lots of fun. BUY IT.

Cool well three quick supportive responses has me feeling optimistic.

Here's a quick checklist that will have me buying this shit ASAP.

Framerate good? (Mass Effect ran like balls on my 360)
Bugs, not present? (If anything is really annoying people I'd like to know. Haven't seen anything from skimming the thread.)
    Balance and mechanics? (You likey?)
Combat animations and visceral satisfaction... on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is an infinite engine game, 5 is Neverwinter with it's occasional parries that look good and 10 is cinematic glory making cutscene indistinguishable from gameplay and you can't wait to run another scumbag through.

Man am I a pain in the ass.

BUY IT.

Haha, thanks for responding to my irritating list guys. It sounds good.
Just popped over to Metacritic and wow, Eurogamer wasn't very nice to the consoles.

Eurogamer was very nearly as bad to the PC yet they still gave it a 9.5.

    So, exploits.

I haven't been able to confirm these for myself. I just saw them on the GameFAQs boards.

    XP
During the initiation quest, get the 3 vials of blood but don't go to the temple to get the treaties. Go back to Duncan and tell him you got the blood. Supposedly he'll tell you to go get the treaties, but you'll get experience for completing the quest. You can then do the conversation over and over.

    Gold
In Redcliff, I believe, you can apparently get a merchant or innkeeper or someone to join the militia and some woman will take over selling his stuff. Supposedly she doesn't actually charge for the stuff. You can buy crystals or something, go sell them to the blacksmith and then come back to buy more. Rinse, repeat.

The good news for me is that my nephew picked this up and should be able to provide more personal impressions. The bad news is that he isn't an RPG kid and doesn't have the Baldur's Gate experience behind him. His RPGs have been the Oblivion/Fallout3/Borderlands variety.

I tried to get him into Sacred 2, but that game ended up disappointing the both of us.

But really, it would take SOOOO long to really abuse that XP exploit. Especially since it's such an early quest.

Still haven't gotten far. Those bandages you need to heal fallen comrades, are they buy-able from the guy at the first camp?

Also, I'm a little weakling. I need to get up to 20th strength so I can put on some of this bank armor I've found.

Could anyone confirm that they can craft in camp with success on the PC?

Anyone? I refuse to believe that I can't craft in camp when the fuckers are standing right in front of me.

Haven't tried. Never really been an issue for me honestly up to this point as I do a lot of the crafting out of camp. Does seem like an odd thing to leave out.
