Those dudes will be sitting back enjoying cocaine and whores and the guys working in the stores will be like, "Fuck, I hope I can get a job washing dishes somewhere."
this guy looks exactly like my district manager at Gamestop too
uncanny
you have your own personal district manager
or worse, you WORK there? I can only hope it's not an unholy hell like the local cesspools.
you'd think that gamestop employees are terrible
but then you meet gamestop customers and think "man, they're actually holding in there pretty well"
Basically I feel sorry for them
I know they have to push their pre-orders and what not and it sucks all around
but if I have to listen to some fat lard bitch at the register about "don't try to sell me anything else slobber drool/snort" I'm going to gut them like a sacrificial lamb and use their blood to lay a ward in the ground to scare off it's bretheren.
It really has been a goddamn long time coming for digital distro. I've wanted that for so many years now.
I have absolute confidence that businesses will figure out a way to fuck this up as well.
As long as the customer is capable of going to any website they want and downloading shit, it seems like it should be basically impossible to fuck it up; somebody will figure out the right way, do it, and make sales.

But Defender most people (me included) want to own a tangible physical copy of our stuff.
Now, if there was digital distribution and you could pay a little extra at any time to get a printed disc of the game you bought over the internet I'd go woo and go with it.
Am I missing something here?
How is digital distribution, straight from the developer, a good thing?
Yeah, it'll lower costs to distribute games, but there is no way customers are going to be able to buy those games for any less. The developers will just be able to keep more profit by cutting out the middle man. They're still going to sell them for $50-60 per. Meanwhile, those of us who really enjoy being able to buy used disks for a quarter of what the game cost when it was new will miss out.
Alright, yes GameStop and all the other stores don't give you shit for game when you go to sell it, but at least it's something! Try to sell back a digital version of that $60 game you just bought online.
I haven't bought a new game for about 2 years, because $15 for a game I'll be bored of in a month is much more reasonable to me than $60.

Steam does an ok job
but valve is pretty free with their content, most developers are going to want to lock it down more tightly with anti-piracy measures and such.
It will only really take off if it can be boiled down to a few channels, if I have to download some crappy front-end rip off of steam for every publisher out there, it's going to get old quickly (thanks EA)
there also needs to be some incentive other than "don't have to drag my lazy ass to the store". They're saving money on distribution, advertising, and material. Some of that needs to be passed on to the consumer. Then the retail outlets will fall quickly.

What? WHAT?
First off, no it won't. Digital distro on music, for example, is way cheaper. A whole album on iTunes or whatever is like 5 or 10 dollars, instead of 20 at a record store.
And secondly, why do you WANT to have a middle man? That's like complaining that recording artists will get to keep more money from their albums instead of record companies. You should WANT developers to receive profit, because they're the part of the industry that actually makes the fucking product!
