Awesome shit man.
How long have you been practicing the Pinstriping? I've been wanting to do this sort of work for a long time, but I can't grasp how you make both sides of designs so symmetrical.
Thanks, Anal.
I'll never be a great pinstriper but it does get easier as you go. It's just something you keep working at and then it sorta clicks. I think learning control of the brushes and paint carries over into other areas of art also. If you want to see some great stripers with lots of advice checkout some of the pinhead sites. The Japanese stripers are awesome.
you seem fairly interesting. you've been around for a minute. was wondering what your story was, like in a nut shell, who is guy bell-type of thing. like where'd you grow up, what got you into the type of art you're doing, what's your day job? that kind of thing.
Oh. Nutshell..I was a happily married steel welder who made underground comics and who's wife developed schizophrenia and was institutionalized. I took off to Europe and hid out for 9 years. I had to pick grapes when I first got there because I couldn't work legally. This got me interested in wine. Broke up with the girl in Europe so I came back here and it was like a million years had gone by. First party I went to people were talking about Seinfeld and Starbucks and I had no idea what they were talking about. Went to Culinary school and got into the wine Business. I set my own hours so I can stay up all night and draw. 2:00 a.m. is the perfect drawing time for me. Not that interesting.

I love Tom Waits. I don't think my situation was that unique. I met a lot of Americans that for whatever reason are now living in Prague, Germany, etc. It's actually much easier now that there are no borders. I encourage anyone to at least take a year and travel. I've met Australians who seem to take at least that long after school to travel. And Australians always seem to be the coolest people you'll ever meet.

WORD. I met this Australian on a bus going to New Orleans in 2001. We had a three hour layover in Menphis so we went out for drinks. We got hammered as quickly as possible but got seperated at the bar. He didn't make it back to the bus on time and we had to leave without him. Three days latter I am tossing back drinks in the French Quarter and in he walks into the pub I was at. We both had a good laugh of it and spent the night drinking. nice fellow.
Yeah most of us here in aus tend to take a gap year and go overseas or work for a year after school. Our SAT equivalent exams are extremely hard in my state (HSC) so most people take a break afterwards. Dozens of my friends have ogne to europe this year after the exams.
Oh and dude i like your letter fonts, you thought about trying out graffity street art?
I grew up attending a church called the "Worldwide Church of God" which was based in California and was originally a radio church. We attended services on Saturday, fasted often, celebrated no holidays (pagan origins), could not watch television from sundown Friday evening until sunup Sunday morning (cheated with that), could not eat pork (meat from a beast with cloven hoof), etc. I left the church at 14 but vividly remember the artwork that was featured in all of our publications. They were terrifying depictions of Revelations, meticulously rendered in a style that was totally unlike anything else. The artist was Basil Wolverton.
It wasn't until I started reading comics that I discovered that he had illustrated numerous comics before being hired by my church. Extremely wild comics.
Fantagraphics evidently has compiled the biblical illustrations into one book now.
Drove up to Maryland and helped a friend move stuff out of his house. I salvaged these from the trash. if anyone has any info on them I'd appreciate it.
Don't know what you already know about them, but from my google-fu, I would say the left figure is from the Android Kikaider series and I found the figure being sold here and here, the latter of which says the figure's from '72.
